NLP for Allergies

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) may assist allergy sufferers through rewiring their thought processes to adopt a more positive state of mind. Read on for more information about NLP for allergies.

What are Allergies?

The term allergy may be used to describe the reaction produced by the body when it encounters something foreign. When an allergic reaction occurs, the body responds by producing antibodies and/or releasing specific chemicals called histamines. When released into the system, these histamines trigger an inflammatory response otherwise known as an allergic reaction. Common allergens include certain drugs, dusts, moulds, insect bites, plants and foods.

The Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) Technique

NLP is a holistic, therapeutic technique that addresses the way in which an individual think and store information regarding their allergies differently. It aims to combine the three most influential factors known to influence human experience, which includes:

  1. The neurological system, responsible for body function regulation;
  2. The language system that controls how we interact and communicate with others;
  3. Our programming, which defines the models of the worlds we create in our lives.

Techniques Used in Neurolinguistic Programming

NLP practitioners may use three different techniques to rewire an allergic individual’s thinking process from a negative to more positive state of mind. These techniques include:

  1. Anchoring, which refers to the refers to the transference of the client's positive response from one group of events/circumstances to another
  2. Reframing, a technique also employed by other forms of psychotherapy. Reframing functions to give an additional set of references or new perspectives from which the patient can view his or her world.
  3. The use of metaphor

Using these techniques, a professional NLP practitioner will help an individual modify the way in which they presently manage their allergies, thus eliminating any unwanted allergic reaction the individual may be currently experiencing.

How Does NLP Help Allergies?

The premise of NLP suggests that allergic reactions (an immune response from the body) are directly influenced by the mind and other psychological factors. NLP works by questioning these factors, and teaches the individual on how to have more control over his or her body’s response to allergens.

Through techniques mentioned earlier, NLP practically retrains the immune system to react less, if at all, to allergens. It aims to treat the allergy by reeducating the immune system to react passively instead of actively in response to allergens (and other foreign substances) via techniques of psychological reframing.

Allergies can often develop in times of great change such as puberty, marriage, poor health and with even parenthood. These changes can all affect us both externally and internally at a cellular level. With these changes in mind, NLP aims to help the individual identify how and when the allergy developed, and reeducates the body on how it may have acted differently. In training the imagination, NLP teaches the body what it needed to know to deal with the allergen at that crucial time of development, giving it a new point of reference for future encounters with allergens.

Is NLP For You and Your Allergies?

If you truly desire being free of your allergies, you don’t have to believe in the NLP process for it to work. It is also important to be allergy free during treatment, which is a minimum of two, two-hour sessions. If you are interested in finding out more on how NLP can treat allergies, please speak to a professional NLP practitioner for more information.
