Otitis Externa

Otitis externa is an inflammation of the outer part of the ear, including the part of the ear canal that leads to the eardrum. The inflammation is caused by a bacterial or fungal infection and is commonly known as swimmer’s ear. Symptoms include itching of the ear or ear canal, ear pain, pain when chewing, a full or uncomfortable feeling in the ear, a red or swollen outer ear, enlarged lymph nodes near the ear, discharge, and temporary hearing loss. Treatment includes ear drops, medication, herbal remedies, massage, suction to remove excess puss and fluid, and keeping the ear dry.
