Snoring

Snoring is the noise produced by the vibration of the soft palate and uvula. It most commonly occurs during periods of sleep and is caused by a physical obstruction to the airways. Risk factors for snoring include hereditary factors, being overweight, age, being male, a history of smoking, a lack of fitness, nasal deformities, enlarged adenoids or tonsils, a long soft palate or uvula, alcohol or medication, breathing problems, sleeping on your back, and pillows that are too soft. Treatment options include stop snoring products, a continuous positive airway pressure machine (CPAP), surgery, dental appliances, losing weight, sleeping on your side, having no pillow, elevating the bed, quitting smoking, not having food or alcohol before bed, dietary changes, nasal decongestants, avoiding antihistamines or sleeping pills, acupuncture, homoeopathy, and aromatherapy.
