"I came to Eva Cahill at a time in my life when I just didn't know where else to go, what else to do, who else to turn to. I was depressed, constantly on the verge of tears, anxious and in a state of paralysis in my life... but I didn't know why. After listening to my story of woe, Eva came up with a course of 'herbal' action. It took a couple of weeks, but once we settled on a particular mix of different herbs, my life truly started changing. Slowly, I have gained my life back; through a gentle mix of naturopathy and massage therapy I am able to see what's been underneath the pain that I have held on to for so many years and have the strength to take control.... I literally am getting my groove back!" T. W., Auckland, September 2009
"My grandmother massaged me as a child, so growing up, I knew the importance of massage for my health - especially for the relief of stress and tension! My challenge over the last decade has been in finding the right massage therapist to suit ME someone that applied the perfect amount of pressure each time, someone that I trusted, and someone that understood my needs. Eva Cahill is exactly that person. She works magic with her intuitive hands and has a lovely flow that comes so naturally to her
absolute BLISS!!!..." Jennifer Lim, Auckland, April 2009
"Eva was introduced to me by another well respected Grey Lynn Massage Therapist when I was in need of help with chronic back ache. She struck me as been knowledgeable and well educated with a very friendly enquiring manner. Eva is thoughtful and provides support and advice that is comprehensive with a massage style that is relaxing and yet focused on easing the areas that need attention. Also she is open to making suggestions of alternative therapy options." John B., Auckland, April 2009

Our therapeutic program aims to reduce pain, inflammation at the site/s of endometriosis, formation of endometrial lesions, recurrence of endometriotic cysts, and relieving associated problems, e.g. irritable bowel syndrome and tiredness. It also aims to support the nervous system where necessary. The focus is on regulating prostaglandins (hormone-like substances involved in modulation of inflammation), hormone levels, immune system, detoxification and circulation. Our program involves:
Dietary & Lifestyle changes - Naturopathic approach for management of endometriosis begins with dietary recommendations to reduce inflammation and pain. Many health conditions respond very positively to dietary changes and Endometriosis is no exception. Diet is the basic foundation to symptom reduction and systemic repair. Both, diet and lifestyle are essential for successful management of this condition and to prevent reoccurrences long-term.
Massage Therapy - can be very helpful in treating pelvic pain associated with Endometriosis. Gentle massage to the lower back, abdomen, gluteals, hips and legs can reduce muscle tension, relieve pain and address any postural changes that result from a chronic pain situation. Massage can also help to increase relaxation and a general feeling of well being which is helpful when dealing with pain.
Herbal Remedies and Nutritional Supplements - intending to help with:
Balancing hormones to improve the relative oestrogen excess
Preventing reoccurrences - rergulation of underlying hormonal imbalance
Optimising hormone detoxification enhancing livers ability to break down
and remove excess oestrogen and other hormones and toxins which may help to restore normal hormone ratios
Decreasing constriction of blood vessels and muscular spasm, thus helping to relieve pelvic congestion and pain
Normal menstrual flow, uterine function and fertility if required
Decreasing heavy bleeding
Rebalancing immune system dysfunction to address auto-immunity basis
Softening and healing scar tissue and formation of adhesions and cysts
Calming the nervous system to cope with chronic pain & anxiety
Addressing the mood swings associated with endometriosis
Regulating bowel habits and alleviating constipation.
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms commonly experienced in women with endometriosis - complicating the pain & hormonal imbalance
Naturopathic Nutrition
Nutrition and the therapeutic use of foods is a cornerstone of Naturopathy. Digestive issues, food intolerances, allergies, deficiencies, dietary imbalances or nutritional excesses have been associated with many medical conditions and underlying health symptoms. With appropriate dietary modification and nutritional supplements health concerns can be addressed with fewer complications and side effects. You will learn how to use different foods to your advantage - e.g. shopping list, menu planning, recipes. Dietary changes are great help in conditions like:
diabetes
high cholesterol
heart disease
Herbal Medicine / Medical Herbalism
Medicinal plants and their substances are highly effective and safe in the right dosage and when used correctly with other herbs and treatments. Herbs can be prepared in many forms - teas, tinctures, powders, tablets, capsules, creams and ointments. Herbal medicine is often successful in addressing a wide range of health conditions, including:
allergies
skin problems
urinary tract infections
immune deficiencies
chronic fatigue
respiratory conditions (asthma, bronchitis, sinusitis, etc.)
Massage Therapy
Therapeutic/Remedial, Deep Tissue, Relaxation type massages - number of massage techniques are used to assess and address soft tissue dysfunction, including advanced soft tissue techniques, muscle energy techniques, stretching and exercise. Massage therapy is often beneficial and help with:
neck, shoulder & back pain
recovery between training sessions & events
injuries, sport injuries, muscle strains
fatigue, low moods, anxiety, stress
headaches & migraines
other chronic pain concerns
Naturopathic Health Assessment
This is a thorough in-depth investigation of your current health complaint/s; your past medical history; family health history; body systems assessment (e.g. digestive, nervous, immune, cardiovascular, musculo-skeletal, respiratory system); clinical examination includes physical signs - blood pressure, pulses, peripheral circulation, hair, skin, tongue, nails. This health assessment also includes comprehensive dietary & nutritional appraisal (daily diet, eating habits & cravings) to assess the underlying nutritional deficiencies, which can cause metabolic irregularities. We will look for any signs of food intolerances, allergies or any blood sugar fluctuations. We will investigate lifestyle factors relevant to your health which includes, e.g. chemical exposure, energy & stress levels, sleep patterns, exercise.
Laboratory & In-Clinic Testing
Testing is suggested and performed as necessary as it is a valuable tool to pin-point the underlying cause of many health problems. These include tests done by blood, saliva, urine and hair - such as:
Blood Tests
Blood tests are performed by MedLab & LabPlus. A wide range of tests are available from CBC Complete Blood Count, Thyroid panels to Allergy testing.
Comprehensive Food Allergy & Intolerance Testing
Blood test - ELISA: IgE- & IgG-mediated food allergies - 98 different foods
Comprehensive Stool & Digestive Analysis
This test offers gastrointestinal function profile - evaluates digestion, intestinal environment & absorption; indicate underlying digestive disturbance. Excellent for on-going, long-term digestive problems.
Male & Female Salivary and/or Serum Hormone Assays
Testing that requires a saliva sample to measure hormonal imbalances. Both Male and Female tests are available.
Urinary Indican Test
Urinary test for bowel toxicity/dysbiosis. Bowel toxicity can be a result of incomplete digestion, inflammatory conditions of the digestive tract, incomplete absorption & bacterial overgrowth which have been associated with ill health.
Zinc Taste Test
Taste test for zinc deficiency. A large portion of the population is zinc deficient. Zinc deficiency causes many health problems. It is essential for proper functioning of the immune system and our healing ability. Zinc overload can cause many of these same issues. Therefore it is important to be tested before self-prescribing this mineral. This qualitative test takes less than 30 seconds and gives you idea about your Zinc levels. This test can be followed by blood test - serum Zinc.
Other specialised laboratory testing
Prevention & Lifestyle Counseling
Prevention is an extremely important part of health care. The aim of naturopathic approach is not to simply treat a problem once it has started; naturopaths strive to prevent problems from starting in the first place. With naturopathy, a person who has recovered from an illness also has the knowledge to prevent the problem from recurring. Mental attitudes and emotional states are important elements in healing and disease. Addressing all aspects of a person's life, identifying and addressing the impact that stress and life events have on a patient's health is an important aspect of naturopathic treatment plan. This includes counsel on diet, lifestyle, specific stressors, exercise and occupational or environmental elements.
