About us
I have always been interested in massage and potion making. As a young girl growing up in England, I would gather rose petals, put them in a jar of water, and leave them in the sun. Now I know this as a simple method of infusion.

I attended a Masonic boarding school for girls. I loved sports at school and was voted captain for netball, hockey, swimming, drama, and tennis. I was also a house prefect, voted head of house. I was the school swimming champion and still enjoy swimming.

As an adult, I left the corporate world to become a full-time mum. I found myself needing some mental stimulation and took an aromatherapy massage course with Dr Vivian Lunny. I found this course fascinating, and began incorporating what I had learnt into my life and family.

Shortly after this I emigrated to New Zealand. Although this was a big move (it meant leaving my siblings and friends), I had a good feeling about coming.

On arrival, I fully embraced life. Shortly after I settled here I decided to return to studying, and completed many courses and certificates. I was the education officer for the Massage Institute of New Zealand for a couple of years, taking an active role in the running of the organisation until it merged with the Therapeutic Massage Association (TMA). I attended the AGM in 2007, intending to resign but left the meeting as president (I am still not quite sure how that happened). I was recently voted onto the executive committee of the New Zealand Register of Holistic Aroma Therapists (NZROHA).

I completed my Strategic Intervention Coaching through Robbins-Madannes Coaching Training. This is an amazingly effect technique designed by Tony Robbins and Cloe Madannes which has powerful results in a short time.

When I am not sitting on committees, chairing meetings, working in my studio, or spending time with my partner and family, I enjoy travelling.

Therapies I practise:
  • deep tissue massage
  • aromatherapy massage
  • hot oil massage
  • infant massage
  • dog massage
  • bioptron light treatments
  • Bach flower remedies
  • reiki
  • spiritual guidance
  • sacred ritual
  • Co-counselling and progressive counselling (in training), STRATEGIC INTERVENTION COACHING
  • aromatherapy – essential oils and blends
  • Dorn therapy.

Services

Spiritual Guidance

What is spiritual guidance?
Spiritual guidance is a combination of progressive counselling, spiritually-based counselling and STRATEGIC INTERVENTION. This therapy gives you insight into the paths you take in life, and a deeper understanding of your self and your choices. I help you uncover issues that may be disturbing you. By understanding the factors that influence you, you can make clearer choices and better decisions about your life.

How does spiritual guidance work?
Spiritual guidance is spiritually-based counselling that uses intuition and unconditional love as its basis. It allows you to get in touch with what is right for you, empowering you to make your own choices and decisions. Progressive counselling helps and encourages you to find the answers you are looking for.

STRATEGIC INTERVENTION
SI is a powerful means of working with an individual, helping them to move through blocks which keep them stuck in a circle preventing them from moving forward, enabling them to make positive choices, breaking old patterns of behaviour.

How long will the therapy take?
This depends on the depth and severity of the problem. I will discuss this with you and agree on the duration and regularity of sessions that best helps you.

Reiki healing

What is reiki?
Reiki (pronounced ‘ray-kee’) is a Japanese technique for reducing stress and increasing relaxation. It also promotes healing. Reiki is given by placing hands on or over the body.

The word reiki is made of two Japanese words – ‘rei’, which means ‘God's wisdom’ or ‘the higher power’, and ‘ki’, which is ‘life force energy’. Reiki can be translated as ‘spiritually guided life force energy’.

Reiki principles
The five reiki principles guide practitioners in healing and positivity. The five principles are:
    1. Just for today, I will not be angry.
    2. Just for today, I will not worry.
    3. Just for today, I will be grateful.
    4. Just for today, I will do my work honestly.
    5. Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing.
As a trained reiki healer (I have completed reiki levels 1 and 2), I can treat your whole body.

Massage Therapy

About massage therapy
Massage is both therapeutic and relaxing. It can help to relieve aches and pains, and maintain a healthy mind and body. I provide you with the type of massage that suits your needs, specialising in:
    • deep tissue massage (half an hour – $45, 1 hour – $85, 90 minutes – $130)
    • aromatherapy massage
    • hot oil massage (1 hour – $150)
I also offer infant massage.

The House of Oils studio is located at 1 Awamutu Grove, Woburn, Lower Hutt.

Deep tissue massage

Deep tissue massage focuses on realigning the deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. Unlike massage therapy, deep tissue massage usually focuses on a specific problem, such as:
    • chronic pain
    • limited mobility
    • recovery from injuries, such as whiplash, a fall, or a sports injury
    • repetitive strain injury, such as carpal tunnel syndrome
    • postural problems
    • osteoarthritis pain
    • fibromyalgia (muscle and connective tissue pain)
    • muscle tension or spasm.
Deep tissue massage is similar to Swedish massage, but the pressure is firmer and more focused.

Aromatherapy massage
Aromatherapy massage is massage therapy using essential oils. Essential oils are derived from plants. These oils help to lift your mood and alleviate pain. An individual blend is made for you on each visit – the essential oils chosen are specific to your requirements on that day. The essential oils work to enhance the massage and continue to work when you leave. My intention is to enhance your physical and emotional well-being in a nurturing and professional environment.

Hot oil massage
Using warm coconut oil to massage the aches and pains from the body, hot oil massage allows for long, sweeping strokes along the whole of the body. This method allows me to work under and over the body simultaneously. $150 for a one hour session.

Bioptron light treatment
Bioptron light therapy supplies natural electro-magnetic energy to the skin, just like the sun does. As a concentrated beam of light, however, it is much faster and more efficient than the sun. The light can be used safely in most situations, and helps in pain relief and in the healing of the body. The length of treatment varies, depending on what is being treated. Bioptron light therapy can be used to reduce skin problems and aid healing.

Infant massage
Learn how to massage your baby. Infant massage classes are great for mums and dads, grandparents, and caregivers. Massaging your child increases the bond between the two of you and improves the health of your child. Four sessions are required to build up confidence and learn the techniques.

If you would like to get a group together, I can come along to instruct. This is a great way to share time with family and friends, and bond with your new baby.

Products

Aromatherapy Essential Oils

I use a wide range of essential oils. It is possible to mix essential oils together, to meet your needs. Coming into summer, it is great to use the insect repellent blend – I find it very helpful.

What are essential oils?
Essential oils are often clear, but some are amber or yellow. They are referred to as an oil, even though they do not have an oily texture. The elements of plants, such as the leaves, stems, flowers, bark or roots, are distilled to make the oil.

How will you benefit from using essential oils?
Decide what you want the essential oil to do for you. Essential oils can help you clear your mind, calm your nerves, ease PMT, and alleviate skin conditions and other ailments. I will help you with your selection, taking into consideration your needs and the way you would like the essential oils to work for you.

I attended my first aromatherapy course in the UK in 1991. Since then, I have completed a certificate and a diploma in aromatherapy. I completed level 1 of aromatic kinesiology in 2004.

Bach Flower Remedies

Bach Flower Remedies are made by diluting parts of flowers, wild plants, trees, and bushes. The best known Bach Flower remedy is Rescue Remedy. The intention of Rescue Remedy is to reduce stress and anxiety. You can give Bach Flower Remedies to pets.

How Bach Flower Remedies work
Dr Edward Bach (1886–1936) was a British homeopath with a Diploma of Public Health. He wanted to make natural remedies to heal people. He believed that people’s emotions impacted on their physical health and wanted to develop something to ease this feeling of emotional imbalance. Through his study, he found that different flowers could influence different emotions.

By carefully deciding what it is you would like help with, we can select the Bach Flower Remedies that will ease these unsettling feelings. This special selection will help bring you back to your true inner self, restoring your balance and your positive outlook on life.

Are Bach Flower Remedies safe?
Dr Bach spent five years, from 1930–1935, developing and testing his remedies. They are used all over the world, and recommended by psychologists, practitioners, and counsellors. Bach Flowers Remedies are not medicinal.

Dosage
Once we have created your personal mixture, you simply put four drops on your tongue four times a day. You can take it more frequently, even every half hour, until the trauma passes. When choosing remedies, it is important that the practitioner explains the reason for the choice. This empowers you in your healing process.

I have completed Bach Flower Course levels 1 and 2. I went to the Bach Centre in the UK in 1999, where I did my Bach Flower Practitioner Training.
