Expertise + Excellence Our therapists all utilise the McKenzie Method®, also known as Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy®. This system utilises active patient involvement and education that is trusted and used by practitioners and patients all over the world for pain arising from bones, joints, muscles, ligaments and tendons. This system is well-researched and evidence-based and recommended for back, neck and extremity problems. The McKenzie Method® was developed in New Zealand by Robin McKenzie and is used world wide. The McKenzie Institute International promotes education, research and knowledge on spinal and peripheral musculo-skeletal problems. In 2005 Robin McKenzie was voted the “most influential person for Physical Therapists” in a survey in the USA. At Richmond Physiotherapy Centre we require all our staff to achieve a high level of clinical expertise in this method. One of our principal physiotherapists has attained the Diploma in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy – the highest level of education within the McKenzie Institute International. All our other physiotherapists are either Credentialled McKenzie Therapists or are involved in the current McKenzie Institute NZ education process, ensuring a seamless transition between practitioners if required. Variety… Although there is a strong emphasis on MDT® based assessments and treatments, our therapists have strengths and expertise in many areas.
  • Industrial injury prevention and onsite clinics – we have been involved with local industry for many years, providing regular onsite assessment and treatment at the local Freezing Works (Alliance Group Ltd). We provide injury management to roading, forestry and sawmill industries and contractors, and involve managers and supervisors in worksite assessment and injury prevention reviews.
  • Exercise and sport – our therapists are a particularly active and enthusiastic bunch and have participated in various sports and activities all their lives. This interest has translated into a community reputation for managing, treating and preventing sports injuries. We provide activity based exercise programmes utilising the community resources of the gym, pool and hills and walkways in the immediate locale to maximise patients return to, and enjoyment of, work and life.
  • Helen has been involved in screening top sports people for injury prevention and post injury management.
  • Our therapists can provide a tailored exercise programme for your individual needs.
  • Breathing problems – Sue is experienced in assessing and treating Hyperventilation Syndrome – which, if left unrecognised and untreated, can lead to anxiety attacks and extensive and varied symptoms.
  • BBPV or Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo can be resolved with the correct techniques to decrease dizziness and visual disturbance. Sue is the expert to see for this treatment.
  • Pilates classes – Sue runs small group classes in “Therapeutic Pilates” – indivisualised programmes, lots of one-on-one attention, providing you with confidence to manage post-injury or for improving tone and strength.
