SERVICES
I have dedicated my entire personal and professional life to improved mental health and wellbeing. The experience of working through my own personal crisis (of meaning and purpose) highlighted for me the essential importance of having a safe relationship within which to explore self, and self in relation to others. I practise psychotherapy with the intention of creating such safety, which enables exploration of areas that are posing difficulties.
I practise dynamic psychotherapy which has an impressive base of evidence. Dynamic psychotherapy can be short term, but may extend over a much longer period according to the individual’s needs. Extensive research shows that the benefits of such therapy continue to grow even after therapy has ended. It can be thought of as an investment in one’s quality of life, and also offering intergenerational benefits (especially to young children, or when children are planned).
Dynamic psychotherapy explores: the links between present difficulties and past experiences; the patterns occurring in relationships; it is emotionally focused including attention to avoided emotion (as ‘insight’ does not necessarily produce relief or change and regulating emotion is often an important task of therapy); and places emphasis on the relationship between client and therapist (since these patterns will often reflect those in other close relationships).
I have specialist experience in working with adolescents; addictions, sexual difficulties; and trauma recovery. Youth, adults of all ages, and couples (including for sexual relationship difficulties) are seen.
