Maria White Reflexologist

My name is Maria White and I live and work in Christchurch. In 2003 I qualified as a professional Reflexologist and I completed my anatomy and physiology training in February 2004.

I offer the following services:

  • Reflexology
  • Jin Shin Jyutsu
  • Acupressure
  • Mobile service
  • Workplace Packages
  • Pamper Parties
  • Jin Shin Jyutsu Self Help Classes
  • Pyschosomatic Therapy
  • Gift vouchers available

I first became interested in Reflexology in 1996 when looking for a way to help my daughter, who suffered from food intolerance's. When I discovered the benefits of Reflexology for myself, I was inspired to continue my studies. It all began when I enrolled to study a course at the Aoraki Polytechnic in 2002.

In August 2006 I discovered another powerful healing therapy, the ancient Japanese therapy of Jin Shin Jyutsu. I am now a Practitioner and Self Help Instructor.

In May 2012 I came across Psychosomatic Therapy and am now a Psychosomatic Therapist.

I am able to incorporate all this knowledge for your treatment sessions with me.

Clinic hours are flexible, with treatment sessions available during the day or in the evening.

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is an ancient therapy. It has origins in many countries including China, Egypt and India. A reflexology treatment consists of specific pressure techniques that work on precise reflex (acupressure) points on the hands and feet. This stimulates body parts, cleanses the system and improves energy flow.

...................................................................

How can Reflexology Help You?

A Reflexologist doesn’t diagnose patients and I do not claim to cure sickness! Reflexology has a balancing effect on normal, everyday bodily functions.

These functions include your
Digestive,
Respiratory,
Endocrine,
Lymphatic systems.

The balancing effects of Reflexology makes it a truly holistic and pleasant approach to healing.

I do not heal the body, the body heals itself. I simply stimulate your process of self healing and strengthen your immune system. This, in turn, leads to improved health and stability for you.

...................................................................

Who can Benefit from Reflexology?

People of any age, male or female. Everyone can enjoy the positive benefits of Reflexology.

What Happens During a Reflexology Treatment?

On your first visit you will be asked to complete a consultation sheet, which helps to give an accurate overview of your current lifestyle and medical history. To begin the treatment, all you need to do is remove your socks and relax! Every treatment is conducted on a massage table or a reclining chair. I will begin to apply pressure to your feet or hands. A treatment lasts for between 30-60 minutes.
This hour will be relaxing and unhurried. This hour is about you and your health, with every treatment being specifically tailored to suit you.

Reflexology History

The earliest evidence of Reflexology was discovered in an Egyptian tomb and it dates back to 2500 - 3000 BC.
In the modern Western world, Reflexology was first used in 1913. Dr William Fitzgerald, an American ear, nose and throat surgeon, discovered that applying pressure to specific parts of the body produced a numbing effect on another part of the body. He divided these ‘reflex responses’ into 10 zones across the whole of the body and named it Zone Therapy.

In the 1930's a physiotherapist, Eunice Ingham, adapted the principles of Zone Therapy by focusing specifically on the feet. Over time, she found that massaging different areas on the feet had a beneficial effect on certain organs and systems of the body. She determined that certain areas of the foot corresponded to certain areas on the body. She named this phenomenon Reflexology.

Jin Shin Jyutsu

Jin Shin Jyutsu, which can be likened to acupressure, is a gentle art that is over 5,000 years old. However, unlike acupressure, no needles are used and the recipient remains fully clothed throughout the treatment.

Jin Shin Jyutsu uses the theory that all energy flows along designated energy pathways or meridians throughout our bodies. This energy can become blocked by mental, emotional and physical demands. Jin Shin Jyutsu aims to clear these blockages, by placing one’s fingertips on a series of designated points.

It is essential to maintain energy flow to halt the manifestation of physical disease and to calm the body. Jin Shin Jyutsu helps to relieve the tensions of everyday life. A session with a trained practitioner usually lasts for an hour.

In addition, there are many, easy to learn, 'self-help' points. Using these points will ensure that the benefits of Jin Shin Jyutsu continue. If you have existing health concerns, or simply wish to maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle, why not give Jin Shin Jyutsu a chance? It’s a simple and powerful healing tool that is available to all.

Pyschosomatic Therapy

Psychosomatic therapy is the Psycho-(Mind) and somatic-(Body) connection, this is where the two are inter-connected. The physical body is the vehicle of the incarnated Soul. Whatever you experience is yours for life.
So these experiences shape the physical body. When we think something in the mind then something happens in the body to make the thought physical. At times the thoughts could be on an unconscious level, because we are inter-connected then the thoughts are integrated into our tissues, organs, this then becomes the shape of our body.

When I look at your body, in a Body-Mind Analysis session, I will divide the different areas into seven chakra’s.

These chakras are:
The Brow & Crown – which relates to Mental energy.,
The Throat – which relates to Mental & Emotional communication
The Heart- which relates to feelings of the Heart, Love, Compassion, Balance.
The Solar Plexus – which relates to Personal Identity, Ego & Confidence.
The Sacral – which relates to Intuition, Sensuality, sexuality, Creativity
The Root – which relates to Vital Life Force, Grounding and foundation

When one or more of these chakras are out of balance, this is seen by excess/insufficient body tissue, which can effect the organs in that area of your body. If this imbalance has been around for a long time then you may development some physical symptoms in that area.

As a Psychosomatic therapist I can quickly and effectively release these held feelings/emotions and experiences through different techniques, so these will release and no longer have the same effort on you.

I feel that I can help you with this deep emotional release without having to go through a lot of counseling, which at times can be really difficult, needing to relive the events/traumas that have shaped you.

“Every organ in the body has its rightful place,
And when it is functioning as it should
The body is whole and perfect.
Every Soul has a rightful place
In the whole scheme of things,

And as each one gives what it has to give to the whole
The work moves forward in true perfection
And there is harmony, beauty and rhythm everywhere.

Live for the whole, think for the whole,
Give to the whole, work for the whole,
So feel part of the whole and become part of it.
All is working in perfect unison and harmony.” Eileen Caddy

Pamper Parties

For a pamper party I will come to your home/work and give your friends, family or work colleagues a 20 minute reflexology treatment for only $20.00 each.
I will offer the host/hostess a free 20 minute session as an extra reward.
