SERVICES
Welcome to Four Winds Yoga Yoga is an ancient art form, that has much in common with disciplines aimed at refining and culturing who we are. It is a broad subject open to many interpretations and practices. Yoga taught at Four Winds is about building a practice mentality, a way of approaching the postures that is systematic and transformational on all levels; body, mind and spirit. Yoga does not belong to any culture, rather we bring our culture to yoga and work from there. The gift of Yoga to the west by India has allowed this ancient art to flourish and grow by virtue of its many positive effects on those who regularly practice. Bookings essential About Four Winds Yoga Formerly known as Yogashala Ponsonby, Four Winds Yoga was established in 1996 at the beautiful Ponsonby Community Centre. The yoga taught at Four Winds is based on the teachings by BKS Iyengar. Iyengar Yoga is a style primarily concerned with alignment of the body. Alignment of the body; creating space, based on support, bearing the load. It is a courageous practice that the regular practitioner benefits from enormously. The strength of the teacher is to teach the students to learn, so they in turn can teach themselves. The yoga requires a level of dedication, not so much as mastering a plethora of techniques but as a way to cultivate a practice based on the understanding within the traditions of a yoga practice. Teachers Suzanne Carson Suzanne Carson is a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher. She has gained certification to Junior Intermediate Level 2 and has been practicing since 1988 and teaching since 1991. Suzanne's strengths lie in her natural gift of strength, flexibility and the intuitive understanding of practice. This translates into a style of teaching that recognizes the importance of a systematic approach, developing a strong foundation for a sustainable practice. 'I believe yoga is a very courageous practice and I have huge respect for anyone who takes it on.Regular practice of yoga keeps me buoyant, it helps keep my internal and external body healthy and gives me a greater confidence in myself; knowing I have tools that will help me cope through life's challenges. I am deeply grateful for all the teachings I have received and particularly credit Peter Thomson for showing me a way forward.' Suzanne Carson Peter Thomson Peter Thomson is one of the most experienced Iyengar Yoga teacher in Australasia. He is the principal visiting teacher and patron of Four Winds Yoga.
