What is homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a branch of medicine based on the principle of “like curing like”. Dr Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843) tested a variety of plant, animal and mineral materials and found that any substance when given to a healthy person in repeated doses will cause that person to develop symptoms. The same substance prepared in dilute dose can alleviate similar symptoms in an ill person. Have you ever peeled and chopped an onion and ended up with stinging, running eyes? Allium cepa, the homeopathic remedy made from onion, can be a useful remedy for hayfever sufferers who have those same eye symptoms. Since Hahnemann’s discoveries homeopathy has spread throughout the world and the modern homeopath has over 3000 remedies from which to select when prescribing.

What can homeopathy treat?

Both acute and chronic complaints respond well to homeopathic treatment.

  • Recurring colds and influenza
  • Ear and throat infections
  • Skin disorders
  • Respiratory tract complaints
  • Menstrual problems
  • Fertility issues
  • STD’s
  • Auto-immune disorders
  • Allergies/sensitivities
  • Depression and mood disorders
  • Prophylactic use of nosodes to provide protection from disease.

What happens in a homeopathic consultation?

Your first consultation will take an hour and a half. As well as talking about the specific complaint that you want help with,we will discuss diet, sleep, lifestyle, medical history and mental/emotional/spiritual wellbeing. Choosing a remedy that most closely matches your symptoms and selecting the appropriate potency and dose are the next steps.

Your Remedy

When you receive your remedy it may be in liquid or pill form. The pills are sugar based and have had the liquid remedy dripped on them. You will receive specific instructions about the frequency of taking the remedy. Always allow at least half an hour between eating, drinking, teeth brushing and taking the remedy. Homeopathic remedies are sensitive to direct sunlight, strong odours and electromagnetism. Store them in a cool, dry, dark place. Keep them apart from essential oils, herbal tinctures and electronic devices ( microwaves, computers, cellphones).

Your Health

A healing response is very individual. A homeopathic remedy stimulates your body’s own healing power. Initially you may experience a feeling of wellbeing or a desire to sleep deeply. Some symptoms may intensify before they pass. Acute illness, a baby with teething pain or earache, may resolve in minutes. Chronic complaints which have been present for months or years generally take longer to respond and may require repeating a remedy, or selecting new remedies, over time.
