Colon hydrotherapy is the cleansing of the large intestine using water. The colon itself is generally between five and five-and-a-half feet long and it is important that all of it is cleansed. The cleansing is achieved by using between 40 to 80 litres of purified water to wash the colon. The colon generally has no more than one litre of water in it at a time in order to prevent overstretching. When undergoing colon hydrotherapy, there should be no internal pressure and therefore no discomfort.
Why Undergo Colon Hydrotherapy?
Colon hydrotherapy is an efficient way to remove toxins, relieve intestinal stress, stimulate muscle function and aid in the body’s natural elimination processes. Over time, waste material may build up in the colon, lining the walls and preventing efficient function. It is important to clean out the colon as it is the “drain” for the body. Removing the waste will ensure that nutrients are absorbed better, bad breath and body odour is reduced and the stomach will not feel as distended. You will also feel lighter, more energetic and better able to defend yourself against disease. Colon cleansing also helps to improve the amount of beneficial bacteria in the bowel.
Colon hydrotherapy is best undergone in the morning. It is advisable not to eat for two hours before the treatment and to drink some water before and after the procedure. After the procedure, you may opt to have a detox bath or to drink a green juice such as wheatgrass. Because the body needs time to repair and detoxify itself, it is best to stick to light foods for a day or two following treatment. The treatment is not painful or offensive in any way and should take approximately one hour in total to complete.
The therapist will be on hand throughout the whole procedure to answer any questions you may have and also to ensure that your needs are met. They may also give you a deep belly massage to assist in the elimination of waste, and may also massage certain meridian points to assist in detoxification.
