Homeopathy for Bronchitis

Homeopathy is one of a range of natural therapies that can be utilised to treat the symptoms of disease and infection.  People are increasingly turning to alternative forms of treatment as they become disillusioned with conventional medicine and its reliance on antibiotics.

What is Bronchitis?

Understanding bronchitis involves an appreciation of the composition and structure of the respiratory system.  The lungs are comprised of a number of branched bronchial tubes which in turn lead to smaller alveolar tubes and sacs.  This is where oxygen is absorbed into the bloodstream and carbon dioxide leaves the body.  Viral infections and bacteria cause the inflammation and swelling of the bronchial passageways, and is often accompanied by the production of mucous. This reduces the surface area available for gaseous exchange to take place and also irritates the sufferer into persistent bouts of coughing.  Other symptoms of bronchitis include a tight chest accompanied by fatigue, excessive phlegm production and a fever.

What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a discipline that uses like to heal, or cure, like - and is based on the principle of treating ailments with a remedy that causes similar symptoms. This is believed to strengthen the ability of the body to fight infections such as bronchitis.  Homeopathic remedies are made by repeatedly diluting plant, animal and mineral elements in water. The qualities of the original substance are believed to be retained in the remedy, and are prepared under strict guidelines.   A consultation with a homeopath will typically involve an assessment which will take into account the patients constitutional type. This is comprised of a person's physical, emotional, and psychological details, and includes factors such as personality, lifestyle and hereditary factors as well as their medical history. An experienced homeopath assesses all of these factors when determining the most appropriate treatment for each individual, and tailors a remedy for them.

How Can Homeopathy Help Bronchitis?

Homeopathy can treat a range of ailments and conditions, including bronchitis. Treatment is aimed at relieving the effects of the cough and encouraging the expulsion of mucous. If you are consulting a homeopath ensure they are qualified and registered by the Australian Register of Homoeopaths (AROH), which ensures standards of service and training.  If you are taking medication and would like to commence a homeopathic treatment, ensure that your doctor and homeopath are aware of this, as conflicts between the treatments or medications may arise.
