Healthy Tips for Summer

Summer is on its way! It’s the time of year you whip out the BBQ’s, dig out the swimmers and enjoy the holiday time and some well-deserved relaxation time on the beach.
However, for many of you, summer also brings the temptation of ice cream, hamburgers and overdoing the tan.

Here are 5 tips for a keeping healthy this summer:

Always Apply Sun Cream

In order to protect your skin, it is important to use a good sun cream lotion that is SPF30.  This will protect your skin from the harsh UV rays. It is not a good idea to sit in the sun during the peak hours of 10am-4pm. If you are planning to be out in the sun for a long stretch, reapply your sun cream every two to three hours or according to directions.

Drink Plenty of Water

During the hot summer months, your body will heat and sweat and can leave you feeling very dehydrated.  If you get bored of water, you can try adding a squeeze of lemon or lime juice.

Healthy Smoothies

Smoothies are a great way to get your fruits and vegetables in throughout the summer time.  However, not all smoothies are created equally.  Watch out for those smoothies made with frozen yoghurts or ice cream as they can be very high in sugar.

Exfoliate

Summer can mean an increase of dead skin cells, it is therefore important to exfoliate your skin so you can keep it smooth and silky.

Keep up the exercise regime

Before you hide those running shoes in the wardrobe, remember summer exercised don’t  have to stop purely as a result of the rising temperatures. If it is too hot to exercise outside, change your exercise plan and take it indoors. You could join a gym, take up a step class or take up swimming.  The options are endless.
