Hypertension

Hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, is a condition where the patient’s blood pressure consistently can be measured to above 140/90. Hypertension is a condition that may cause effects such as heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and diabetes. This may cause patients with hypertension be more disposed to develop these conditions. Symptoms of hypertension are very few, for which reason it is important that the blood pressure is checked frequently. Hypertension can be divided into two typologies; essential hypertension where the cause is unknown while secondary hypertension is caused by an underlying cause. Hypertension is treated with medication, targeting the underlying cause, and making lifestyle interventions such as losing weight, cessation of smoking, frequent exercising, dietary interventions, and diminishing alcohol consumption. The blood pressure may also be lowered by fish oil supplements, nutritional supplements, and relaxation therapy.
