Cholesterol is a substance made by the body and also consumed via animal fats. If there is too much cholesterol in the blood, there is an increased risk of heart disease. High cholesterol itself does not show symptoms, only the diseases high cholesterol causes do. Thus, many people are unaware they have a problem. Cholesterol can be lowered through medication, dietary alterations, herbal remedies, Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine, yoga, and physical therapy.
