Croup

Croup is a viral infection that occurs in children and infants, caused by a serious infection in the upper airways. The infection leads to an upper throat inflammation, disturbing the child’s normal breathing, resulting in the illness’ signature ‘barking cough’. Other symptoms include stridor and hoarseness though can be cleared with a single course of ingestible steroids. Treatment options include medication, fluid replacement, and, in serious cases, hospitalization.
