Cushing’s Disease

Cushing’s disease occurs when the body produces and administers excessive amounts of cortisol. Cortisol is a steroid hormone that our bodies release when we are stressed and experiencing adrenal fatigue. Also referred to as hypercortisolism, this disorder might lead to upper body obesity, a rounded face, increased neck fat, thin, fragile libs, cracked skin, exhaustion, feeble muscles, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, crankiness, anxiety, depression, hirsutism, and irregular purple markings on the abdomen, thighs and breasts. Treatments of course depend on the reason for the excess cortisol, and range from surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, cortisol-inhibiting drugs, and a lifestyle modification.
