Depression is an unpleasant mental state typified by low moods, overwhelming feelings of sadness, helplessness, despair or hopelessness. Depressed moods are different from clinical depression, as the first one might be reactive and circumstantial, while the other is a long-lasting psychiatric disorder. Dealing with depression differs on a case-by-case basis, but mainstream treatments include medication, increased exercise, counseling and psychotherapy. Alternative approaches cover massage therapy, yoga, relaxation therapies such as meditation, herbal remedies, homeopathy and energetic healing and Traditional Chinese Medicine
