Pilates can transform the way your body looks, feels and performs. It builds strength without excess bulk, creating a balance in your body. It teaches body awareness and good posture. Pilates improves flexibility, agility and can help you move with ease and grace. Pilates is also great for rehabilitation purposes or for overall health and fitness. Pilates is appropriate for a gradual return to exercise following an injury or period of inactivity, as well as being an ideal form of exercise to participate in for cross training in the athletic population and throughout all three trimesters of pregnancy. The Physio Pilates studio embraces the essence of what Pilates offers in a comprehensive way, combining both the clinical experience of our rehabilitation team, with the fitness and movement experience of our instructors.

SERVICES
Pilates is a form of exercise that was originally developed by German born Joseph Pilates. Pilates dedicated his life to becoming physically stronger and studied many forms of movement leading to the development of his unique method of physical and mental conditioning. He brought his method to the USA in 1923. In the 1930's and 1940's it took the dance world by storm as dancers plagued by injuries common to elite performers embraced Pilates' exercise method. Dancers found that by reintroducing movement with the right amount of assistance and resistance provided by Pilates in the early stages of rehabilitation, long recovery periods were reduced and the ability to reach peak performance was enhanced. Physiotherapists began to integrate Pilates based exercises into their treatment programs more than 70 years later, when they realised the benefits of the strength and flexibility gains made by their clients who were doing Pilates. It also fits perfectly into the 'Preventative Health and Well Being' model of keeping the body moving through its maximal range of movement, rather than waiting till the client seeks treatment for aches and pains that have often crept up over a long period of time. The physio pilates studio is a well established Pilates studio started by Nicola Tyler in 2003. Embracing the total system of Pilates with years of physiotherapy experience has proved a powerful combination and her pilates studio has continued to grow and attracted like minded professionals. Individual Your first class will be a private session that includes an assessment and getting started on the fundamentals of Pilates that form the base of your programme. Group Pilates sessions After your first class you may choose to have more private lessons, or come into a group session. Everyone works at their own pace, and all sessions are fully supervised. Max 3-5 people in a group. Allegro classes Another option is to join an Allegro class. These choreographed classes are conducted with a group of four clients, using the Allegro Reformer, a Pilates machine that assists and accentuates execution of the exercises. We are ACC registered and no referral is necessary. Pilates can be done in a variety of ways, and in a wide range of environments such as Gyms, Community centres, Physiotherapy practices and Pilates studios. The main difference with a Pilates studio is that it is fully equipped with all the machines that Joseph Pilates developed during his career, as well as catering for mat work and home exercise programs.
