PRE-CONCEPTION CARE AND NATURAL Conceiving a child is a very special event that requires conscious and careful preparation. The preconception care programme can assist you in achieving your goal of a healthy pregnancy and baby. It ensures that both prospective parents attain good general and reproductive health prior to starting conception attempts. It is important to note that it takes approximately 90 to 100 days for sperm and eggs to mature. For this reason it is essential to have at least 3 months of preparation time for the benefits to be realised at the time of conception. The programme is not just for couples having difficulty conceiving but also for every couple who want a healthy baby. Together we look at overall health, nutrition, specific essential nutrients, lifestyle, stress and environmental factors. We look closely at the woman’s menstrual cycle, teaching them to chart their basal temperatures and mucus in order to understand optimal timing for conception. A holistic approach using natural therapies supports any fertility issues such as hormonal problems, immune issues, heavy metal toxicity, recurrent miscarriages and sperm problems. These therapies may include nutritional advice, herbal medicine, detoxification protocols and stress management. The preconception care programme can also support couples undergoing medical fertility treatments such as IUI/IVF
PREGNANCY CARE/ BIRTH SUPPORT Pregnancy is a happy and exciting time. Parents aim for a healthy, stress free ,full term pregnancy, with an uncomplicated birth and breastfeeding relationship and a strong healthy child.at the end of it. Many understand the importance of a nutritious diet, regular exercise and mental and emotional wellbeing during this special time. Pregnancy care involves lifestyle and dietary advice with specific nutrients recommended. Support is also given when things do not go as expected . Some pregnancy related conditions that may arise are morning sickness, heartburn, constipation, thrush, varicose veins, hypertension, gestational diabetes and others. These can be treated with specific dietary advice, safe herbal medicines and supplements that are indicated. You are much less likely to have problems during labour if you have maintained a healthy diet and lifestyle throughout the pregnancy. Exercise, yoga, and relaxation are all helpful in preparing the body for birth. There are a number of safe medicinal herbs that can be taken in the last few weeks of pregnancy to aid the birth. Post natal care is also available.
WOMEN'S HEALTH Women’s health needs are supported from puberty to menopause and beyond. Women go through a number of transitions in their lives and sometimes health issues arise at these times. Lifestyle and dietary advice is given, vitamin and mineral support is suggested and there are many wonderful herbal medicines that can be helpful for the wide range of conditions that women can experience. These include hormonal imbalances, PMT, acne, PCOS, endometriosis, fibroids, painful and heavy periods , weight management, genito- urinary tract infections, candida, menopausal symptoms.
CHILDREN'S HEALTH In recent times our children’s health has been compromised greatly due to environmental toxins including daily exposure to radiation, processed and nutrient deficient foods, lack of exercise and stress. Children are now exposed to so many more viral and bacterial infections that can challenge their immune systems and may then lead to environmental and food sensitivities/allergies. Children’s health is supported through nutritional and dietary advice, allergy testing, herbal medicines and supplement programmes.
NUTRITIONAL ADVICE Today the foods we consume are often nutrient [vitamins &mineral] deficient. Factors that cause this are foods grown in depleted soils, the use of man-made fertilisers and pesticides, which rob our soil of key nutrients. Also long storage, high refining, processing, and the use of additives and preservatives further deplete the nutrient status of our food. Eating too many takeaway foods, or too many refined carbohydrates, sugars and fats further affect our nutritional wellbeing and are contributing to dis-ease. Together we will look at what you are eating, look at foods that could be aggravating your condition and look at foods that will improve your digestion and therefore improve your energy and sense of wellbeing. Eat a variety of fresh foods that are nutrient high, lots of fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables, wholegrains, protein foods, nuts and seeds, fresh herbs and spices, cold pressed oils and good fats high in Vitamin A & D. Eating a balance of raw/cooked foods and acid/alkaline foods. Drinking purified water. Avoiding excess sugars and sugar substitutes, food additives, colourings and preservatives, trans fats and salty foods.
HERBAL MEDICINE Herbs help support the body in healing itself. Plants have always been used for their restorative and healing powers. Even today many drugs still have their origin in plant material and today scientific research has substantiated the use of herbs’ therapeutic effect. When appropriately selected herbal medicines offer a safe, powerful and effective approach to healing with few side effects. Some of the areas herbs are used for are:
  • Hormonal imbalance
  • Digestive /Bowel problems
  • Immune support/Infections
  • Liver/ Kidney support
  • Skin disorders
  • Nervous system / stress / headaches / sleep problems
  • Children’s health
  • Allergies
As a naturopath and herbalist I will check for any other medications (orthodox or otherwise) that you may already be taking to ensure there is no unwanted interaction. I will prescribe standardised herbal extracts in therapeutic doses to suit the individual. Homeobotanical Therapy Homeobotanicals are a mix and match system of natural medicine that gives total freedom of prescribing to the Practitioner. Botanical blends have been formulated to cover all the organs and systems in the body, and these are combined to match the symptoms evident in the patient. These remedies are diluted and formulated for each individuals needs.
FLOWER ESSENCE Flower essences are made from flowers using the suns energy to extract the subtle essences, and are used mainly to promote awareness of emotional, mental and spiritual balance. An inharmonious state of mind can affect recovery to health and can be the primary cause of sickness and dis-ease. They can help to relief stress and emotional imbalance, and are safe to use on children, in pregnancy and throughout life as needed
DIGESTIVE HEALTH Digestive disorders are related to stomach, small and large intestines (Bowel) and are the primary sites for nutrient absorption and may contribute to the development of poor health. The digestive system plays a major role in the process of energy and nutrient gathering and also involved in immune functioning, every day our gastro intestinal tract comes into contact with harmful organisms through the food we eat and water we drink, therefore can create sensitivities/allergies to certain foods and environmental pollutants. Leading to disorders such as Irritable Bowel, Candidiasis, Colitis, Crohn’s, heartburn, reflux, skin disorders etc Having a well functioning digestive system is most important, it will help regulate bowel movement and improve nutrient absorption and therefore improve your immune system. Treatment through looking at diet, restoring good flora to the gut, and improving absorption through reducing inflammation and good nutrition.
IRIDOLOGY Iridology is the analysis of the patterns and structures of the iris and pupil. The iris comprises of thousands of nerve endings, which are connected by pulses to every tissue and organ through the brain and nervous system. It has been established that over 25000 individual fibres are contained in the eye and can be used to access our inherent and acquired strengths and weaknesses and provide insight into our health. Iridology will not show or name a specific disease but provides information about the body tissues that indicate tendencies towards conditions of “dis-ease” often before symptoms appear.
