About Us
John Cullen has practiced in the Auckland CBD since 1988. With this experience he is able to assist people with the short-term management of pain and illness and also longer term health recovery.
He is skilled in a variety of techniques: Joint Manipulation, Soft Tissue Release, Cranial Manipulation, Counterstrain, Visceral, Biodynamic and Functional techniques.
John is committed to helping people understand and take charge of their health and to put health issues into perspective. All treatments are adapted to suit the individual.
John's academic qualifications are: B.A.(Auck), B.Sc.(UNSW), Grad. Diploma Osteopathy (Sydney). He is committed to ongoing professional development. Throughout his career John has served on a number of professional and community committees.
What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is an art and a science that uses the tools available in medicine and osteopathy to tailor a treatment for the individual person that will assist them to recover from pain, disease and injury by enabling their health to be expressed.
The tools available in osteopathy include a n in-depth understanding of:
the anatomy of the body
how the body functions normally
how the body has failed to recover so far
the pathways in which the body can return to health.
The tools that the osteopaths at this clinic use include:
Manipulation of the body
soft tissue manipulation (massage type)
cranial (using the cranial rhythm to unwind the body from the inside out)
manipulation or gapping of joints (a click is often heard)
visceral (moving the internal organs of the body)
muscle energy (using your muscle activity to change body patterns)
counter-strain (holding muscles to release spasms and free joints)
functional (moving the fascia of the body)
biodynamics (an extension of cranial treatment using the body as fluid).
