Welcome to Biokinetik Exercise Centre
A strong balanced solution to an unbalanced lifestyle
A perfectly balanced body will be strong, pain free and move effortlessly, with repetitive movements not causing undue wear and tear. BET (Biokinetik Exercise Technique) is a unique physiotherapy rehabilitation approach, based on the Pilates method, building up core strength and stability to improve posture and overall muscle balance and efficiency throughout the body. The Biokinetik Exercise Centre was established in 2000 and 10 months ago moved to new premises at 18 New St where they enjoy the increased space and central location. The three physiotherapists at BEC, Vicky, Neroli and Gabrielle, each has more than 25 years’ experience in treating musculo-skeletal problems and they are all impressed at how effective this method is for all types of physiotherapy treatment. Common conditions that respond well to this treatment include back pain, neck pain, headaches, OOS, recurring tendonitis, sports injuries and athletes not achieving their potential. In addition there are programmes for exercises before and after surgery on the spine or joints and for pre- and postnatal exercises.
BET requires very specific activation of the key postural muscles using mat exercises as well as Pilates equipment to provide a huge variety of exercises. This develops a postural awareness that can be carried over into everyday life. These exercises can be gentle and low impact or very challenging, depending on the needs of each client. The team often see patients who have not responded to other treatments and are also involved in ACC rehabilitation programmes spanning six to twelve weeks. Other options include classes for general strengthening and posture improvement, or studio sessions where you can work on the Pilates equipment. You can be referred by your GP or other health professional or refer yourself: you are never too old. The team is committed to quality and best business practice and this was recognised in mid-2007 when the centre received HDANZ (Health and Disability Auditing, NZ) accreditation.
