Tai Chi Chuan is practiced for health and self-defence, following the rich tradition passed down through Cheng Man Ching (Zheng Manqing) and Huang Sheng Shyan (Huang Xingxian) to Professor Yek Sing Ong, the founder and grandmaster of Sing Ong Tai Chi. Classes are offered in New Zealand, Australia, Canada and Malaysia. New students are always welcome. We hope you enjoy exploring our website and finding out more about us. Sing Ong Tai Chi for Health It's well known that just 20 to 30 minutes of exercise every day will improve our lives. Like any exercise, tai chi improves your fitness and makes your muscles, bones, heart and lungs stronger. Tai chi is an exercise that anyone can do, and it uses natural, comfortable movements that are gentle on the joints. It is enjoyable and does not unduly stress the body. The Chinese tradition Performed properly, tai chi is a form of chi kung (qigong). In Chinese culture, it is widely respected as an exercise that promotes overall good health and a calm mind. When taught according to traditional methods, tai chi is a discipline that fully engages you. There is a constant process of learning and improvement that means you will stay fascinated; many who start tai chi just for exercise continue doing tai chi for their whole lives.
Sing Ong Tai Chi for Self Defence Tai chi originally became famous as a martial art. Early exponents were so well regarded for their skill that they taught the guards of the Emperor of China and found work protecting merchants from bandits. It was the excellent health of people who had learnt the martial art which led to tai chi's fame for promoting health and longevity. Self defence for everyone Tai chi is a safe and non-aggressive alternative for people who would like to learn self-defence.
