Grant's Tips for Choosing a Hypnotherapy Course Here are several of the most important points that I suggest you investigate carefully, before choosing a Hypnotherapy course:
  • Firstly and most importantly, make sure you're be happy with the tutor. I suggest that you talk with him/her in person to make sure he/she is experienced, knowledgable and personable. If you learn a topic that interests you, from a person who is openly and honestly passionate about sharing it, then it'll make for a much more positive learning experience. So make sure there are multiple clearly accessable contact methods for your tutor - and that you test them!
  • Popular, well established training courses will have plenty of recent testimonials available so please read them! Remember that a good number of recent positive testimonials probably means many happy students. Capitalise on the experiences and reports of those recent past students.
  • Be comfortable that the course pricing is clearly advertised and realistic for a simple natural therapy - and that GST is included! Also, are there any loyalty or early payment discounts? Make certain you pay a fair price for your Hypnotherapy education. Afterall, it's a safe natural therapy and should be easily within the reach of anyone who chooses to learn it.
  • Some courses may require you to pay an application fee, provide a photo and maybe even attend an interview before they accept you! If so, what's the fee for - and does it really matter what you look like? At the end of the day, only genuinely caring and essentially good people will succeed in Hypnotherapy anyway, so the profession is pretty much self protecting.
  • Is the course content and structure relevant to, and focused on, Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy - or is there "padding" from other natural therapies to make the course appear longer than it really is? Sure there are many other natural health modalities that combine very well with Hypnotherapy - but a Hypnotherapy course probably should concentrate on teaching Hypnotherapy alone - and teaching it well!
  • Does the course have a policy of examining its students? A good training establishment will require you to complete a post course examination, so that the tutor can guage your understanding of the course content. Be wary of any training school where simply paying for and/or attending the course is sufficient to gain their qualification! Also, check how long before you will be telephoned or emailed with your results - and your certificate or diploma forwarded to you. (My standard for this, is 24-48 hours!)
  • Is your chosen tutor a Registered Hypnotherapist, a member of a reputable NZ Hypnotherapy Association and of the NZ Hypnotherapy Federation? Also, please make certain that he/she has been an integral part of New Zealand Hypnotherapy since last century and most importantly - positive and passionate about Hypnotherapy!
