SERVICES

Welcome to Yoga Academy
Our Facilities According to the ancient texts (including the famous Hatha Yoga Pradipika) yoga needs to be done in clean quiet surroundings that are free from disturbances, so the student is free to focus inward with purpose intent and then the mind becomes quiet, the breath steady and the body willing.

There are five types of yoga classes (as outlined below) for you to choose from, just turn up at least 5 minutes prior to the start time. Bring your yoga clothes and a towel if you want a shower. We look forward to seeing you. Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga The Yoga Academy has daily classes in the Mysore Style in correct sequential order without deviation from the traditional form of asanas as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois at the Ashtanga Research Institute (AYRI) in Mysore South India. The teachers at The Yoga Academy are committed to following the teaching of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois through visits at regular intervals to his Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute in Mysore India. The name Ashtanga is derived from the eight limbs of yoga as laid down by the great sage Patanjali. Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga (as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois) is a dynamic system which gracefully synchronizes breathing and movement. Its objective is to promote a strong flexible body and focused mind. The benefits of regular practice are almost immediate. You will sweat during practice, as this is necessary for elimination of toxins - an important aspect of this type of Yoga. At the same time your attention will be focused inwards, so you will have a deep and effective relaxation at the end of the session. Regular practice of Ashtanga Yoga will result in improved cardiovascular ability, physical strength, flexibility, breath control, balance muscle tone and loss of excess weight. Hatha Yoga Hatha Yoga is characterized by it's precise alignment and attention to detail. A safe sure way to health and well being. Time can be spent in the poses discovering correct alignment of the pose. Beginner classes are suitable for people with no prior yoga experience. Open classes suit Beginners level 2 (some experience) and Intermediate students. Each Hatha Yoga class has a theme (standing poses, sitting poses, backbends or abdominal strengthening poses) between the inversions which are usually handstands and headstands at the beginning and shoulderstands before the relaxation period at the end. Each week the theme changes until all the themes are covered. Hatha Yoga reduces stress and fatigue, gives flexibility and strength to the body. Eases pain and is good for back care and injuries including RSI (OOS). Pregnancy Classes: Pregnancy classes are for pregnant women after the end of the 1st trimester. The sequencing and poses are designed to help with the pregnancy and birth keeping safe from poses taught in general classes which could cause complications. Pregnancy classes are for all levels from beginners to experienced students. Some of the results from regular attendance are: strengthening of the back so that back pain from carrying is reduced or eliminated, opening the hips and groin to help with the birth, increased circulation of blood and the lymph system to reduce or eliminate toxemia. These classes are a time to enjoy the company of other pregnant women with an experienced female teacher. Private Tuition I wholeheartedly recommend private yoga lessons taken with our teachers. We have people receiving privates for various reasons i.e.:
  • To supplement their classes with special instruction which help problems they experience in different areas of their body e.g. Weak abdominals, tight shoulders or back problems etc.
  • To fine tune their practice with help in understanding certain postures which are misunderstood or difficult to do in class.
  • To begin yoga in a private environment with attention to the basics of the postures before proceeding on to regular classes.
  • To receive one to one instructions regarding stress relief.
All of our teachers who give private classes are fully qualified and hand picked by me to suit the needs of the student. The lessons are given at the Yoga Academy outside class times and all the facilities are available to the student and the teachers. The costs are minimum $70.00 per hour (incl. GST). If you feel that a private lesson or group of lessons (usually three) will be of help to you, contact me.
