Welcome to The Self Heal Clinic
We are a natural health clinic with a very good reputation for sorting out difficult health problems! We do a huge amount of work with people with digestive disorders, allergies, adrenal fatigue, thyroid problems, chronic fatigue, auto-immune conditions, anxiety, arthritis, cancer and sleep disorders among other things. We offer very effective allergy testing and use live blood screening and other diagnostic means as part of our service. All of the products we use are natural herbal and nutritional products and many are practitioner only, which means they can only be dispensed by a qualified person such as our practitioner Sarah Beesley.
Sarah is a qualified medical herbalist which means she is able to work in with people's medications where necessary, and also means people can be assured that drug/herbal interactions and drug/nutrient depletions are always addressed.
Many of the people we treat comment that when they come to the clinic it is the first time that they get a true understanding of their condition, how it came about and what can be done about it. For most, this is very empowering and is an important part of the way we work.
We make a number of herbal teas - all organic - and beautiful face creams and ointments. Many of the plants used in these are grown in the clinic garden. We have the most comprehensive herbal dispensary in the lower half of the North Island.
What is a Medical Herbalist?
A Medical Herbalist is a trained professional with an in-depth knowledge of the way the human body works, and a current up to date knowledge of how to use natural medicine to address the imbalances in the body that result in ill health.
Because everything in the body is linked, a medical herbalist will look at what is happening in every body system which means that the problem which has been driving your health issues is identified and addressed, as well as the symptoms.
The symptoms you have are simply your body’s way of telling you something needs to change.
A medical herbalist may use medical tests and other tests such as live blood analysis and urinary indicans testing, plus iridology and a detailed understanding of the signs you present with to determine the best course of action for you.
Sarah Beesley is a highly qualified, registered medical herbalist with 5 years of training in the field of herbal and nutritional medicine. Her passion is actively working with people towards better health. Sarah owns and operates The Self Heal Clinic, a busy multi-practitioner practice in Greytown which is supported by one of the most comprehensive herbal dispensaries in the lower half of the North Island of New Zealand.
She is trained in nutritional and herbal medicine, has a special interest in digestive, immune and endocrine disorders, knows how to work with medications, will take the time to listen to you, and is down to earth in her approach. Her training includes a detailed knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, chemistry, biochemistry, plant pharmaclogy, nutrition and product manufacturing.
Consultations
The symptoms you have today are simply a reflection of how your body has tried to compensate and stay in balance, and getting to the bottom of a health problem can be a bit like unravelling a puzzle. An initial appointment is usually one hour long. During this time a detailed medical history is taken, any required testing will be identified and set up, and some simple treatment measures may be implemented. When the test results come back, a half hour appointment will be required to go through them, and to begin your core treatment. A half hour follow up visit is usually booked for 3-4 weeks after starting treatment.
Once your initial appointment has been booked, we will send out some forms for you to fill in, which need to be brought with you to your appointment. They will ask you to outline any medications and supplements that you are using, and the questions in them will give Sarah a good overview of how your whole body is working and factors which may have contributed to your health problems.
Working this way enables us to be thorough, which is why we get good results. It also means you get a better picture of what has gone wrong, why and what you can do about it.
Testing charges vary according to the individual requirements. We have invested in our own testing equipment and technical staff where we can, in order to make the testing as cost effective as possible. If so, they could be due to food or environmental sensitivities. These sensitivities can be easily assessed by testing a sample of your hair. You will be given a report with the reactions graded according to severity, with instructions as to how to use the result.
