SERVICES

Welcome to North Shore Osteopaths Osteopathy is a system of manual therapy that is recognised as part of the national health system in many western countries. It encourages the body to move as freely and as pain-free as possible. In addition to standardised tests, osteopaths use touch, movement & observation to diagnose and treat physiological or mechanical disturbances in the body. A comfortable, hands–on therapy Having a range of techniques allows us to choose the best ones for each patient and their condition,, from the most physically active to babies & the elderly. Examination and treatment aim to be comfortable, so even the most nervous can benefit! We take a detailed case-history from new patients. This helps us choose the best treatment for you &, importantly, also gives signs of any other serious problem for which a G.P should be consulted.
Cranial Osteopathy Cranial osteopathy is a gentle technique which can be applied to any tissue in the body – not just the cranium or head as is commonly understood. It can be used for joint and muscle strains, organ dysfunctions such as uterine pain or connective tissue problems such as scar tissue or inflammation. It can also be useful where the person is stressed from physical or emotional causes and in this case helps to restore normal function in the nervous and hormonal systems. If the body is injured then it will always try to heal in the best way that is possible at that time. Sometimes the healing process is not able to fully return the tissues to normal and the tissues may be left with a strain or scar tissue. Injury not getting better? This could be because the diagnosis is wrong or that the treatment is not addressing the underlying causes. It may also be due to irreversible damage. Either way, it pays to get another opinion & a fresh perspective on the causes & treatment options. Our aim is to give you lasting improvement with the fewest treatments. This means getting to the causes of you problem so that you don’t need to keep returning. Optimum healing is important Damaged muscles & ligaments release inflammatory substances which in turn cause shortening of these tissues around the joint. Scar tissue is also less elastic than undamaged muscle, especially if the joint is immobile for long periods. This is why restoring proper mobility as soon as possible is so important. It is also important because movement is essential to keeping the joint & its tissues well drained and supplied with the blood & nutrients it needs.
