Welcome to Body & Mind Therapies
I studied therapeutic massage through Wellpark College of Natural Therapies in Ponsonby, Auckland, graduating in 2008. I studied part time over several years and worked at the same time applying what I learnt as I studied. I enjoyed the pregnancy massage course so much that I repeated it after graduation. I studied clinical hypnotherapy through the Osmosis Academy of Hypnotherapy with Merv Holster, graduating in 2002. I have since attended all the conferences and workshops, recently adding Parts Therapy, hypnotherapy for fertility and for birth. What to expect in a massage appointment
I always ask new clients to fill out a client form. This is so I have a clear understanding of the client’s health history and needs for the massage session. I then test the client’s movements to find any restriction of movement or pain. Any areas found are discussed with the client and the client is asked if they are happy with the areas being worked on. I regularly check with the client during the massage if the pressure of the massage is comfortable. Why have a massage? Massage is a “hands on” therapy where the soft tissue is worked to facilitate change and reduce muscle tension and pain. Massage improves blood flow to the muscle tissue and other soft tissues (eg: tendon, ligaments and connective tissue). It enhances the uptake of oxygen and nutrients and flushes out toxins resulting in healthier muscle tissue. It also helps to realign muscle fibers. This is particularly good after a soft tissue injury. Massage can lower levels of Cortisol (stress hormone) and calm the central nervous system. Pregnancy Massage I enjoy working with expectant mums. Massage can relieve the pressure on the pelvis, the lower back and shoulders. A pregnant lady’s body is undergoing huge changes and can really start to ache in the later stages of the pregnancy. I have a pregnancy pillow that allows the lady to lie face down and not feel her tummy at all. Physical effects of massage are: Massage promotes relaxation, slowing down nervous palpitations, deepening sleep patterns, lowering blood pressure, balancing the appetite, strengthening the immune system, releasing muscle tension, lowering cholesterol levels and increasing the blood supply to the heart. It also eases mental and emotional stress, depression and anxiety, thus increasing your inner resources and resilience. Oils Used
Almond Oil – Prunus amygdalus Southern Cross Health Insurance-- Therapeutic massage is claimable through the Wellbeing Policy if it includes the Body Care Module. The stress of diagnosis of leukaemia prompted me to seek the relief of muscle tension and through hypnotherapy some tools for my mind in coping with my situation I looked at Hospice services for Cancer sufferers for assistance with my situation. I selected Body and Mind as it is a well-established practice Karin and I belonged to a social group and I found her to be a person of high integrity and the ideal person to help me with the tension and stress I was under in both of my body and my mind Karin knows exactly what she is doing and displays skills in such a way to give me complete confidence in her Her ability to relax me totally was extremely skilful and I came away refreshed and relaxed and with a peace of mind that gave me confidence to face the days ahead I would recommend Karin to anyone without hesitation Rob B, January 2014 HYPNOTHERAPY
What to expect in a hypnotherapy appointment A client is asked to fill out a client information form. This includes the reason for the appointment plus how the client chooses to relax. I talk through the reason for the appointment with the client so that I have a clear understanding of what is needed and what the client wishes to achieve. Hypnotherapy for fertility increases pregnancy rates - refer to "It's Conceivable" by Lynsi Eastburn. This is a twelve week program that teaches the mum to be how to relax at a very deep level creating optimum conditions for pregnancy. Hypnotherapy for birth is a four week program that teaches the mum how to relax deeply. Relaxed muscles work as they are meant to work enabling the the birthing process to flow with minimum discomfort. Re Stopping Smoking Thanks for all your help Karin. I certainly couldn’t have done it so effortlessly without you. Have a nice long weekend. 3 June 2011 I am doing really well on the non smoking front and I am finding it relatively easy. 28 May 2011 Cheers Julie P. Testimonials
I had been smoking for 19 years and tried unsuccessfully to quit smoking a number of times using books, patches, cold-turkey and chewing gum methods. I turned to Karin to help me and had my last cigarette 5 minutes before my first session. It gave me the support that all of the other methods lacked to help me get over ‘The Hump’. I haven’t had one since. Thank you for helping me to change my life for the better, Karin. I have no hesitation in absolutely recommending Karin’s professional hypnotherapy service.” Adam Isa 22 August 2008 Faced with the prospect of having neck surgery I was feeling somewhat nervous, particularly as the appointment loomed closer and closer. I understand the power of the mind, so chose to have hypnotherapy with Karin Hulme. I found the two session’s incredibly beneficial, taking time out from an otherwise busy life to visualise, focus and relax. On the day of my surgery I felt totally calm, and focused and thought it interesting that my heart rate and blood pressure were measured as normal. Post-surgery I was discharged a day early. I would certainly recommend Hypnotherapy with Karin Hulme @ Body and Mind. Greg Holland 15 July 2009 Jeweller Newmarket, Auckland My hypnobirthing sessions taught me to focus on the word "release" when I felt contractions which helped heaps with Finns labour. I would visualize my body slowly and gently releasing Finn - was quite a powerful feeling and gave me a lot of confidence. I slipped into fear thoughts with my first sons (Jamies) labour and that made it harder and more painful. Fear = muscles contract = pain :) Fiona Hall 4 December 2007 Massage I regularly have body massages – they make a huge difference in lowering stress levels and improving overall muscle mobility and my sense of well being. Karin is well worth making an appointment with for her wonderful de-stressing and relaxing massage. She knows exactly where to apply pressure, to relieve muscle tension in neck, back and shoulders. She certainly did the trick for me and after an hour under her magic hands I leapt off her massage table feeling rejuvenated and ready to take on the new week! Nicky Webber May 2011 My mother flew out from Germany and had very tight sore shoulders. She is very fussy about having a massage and after being to Karin for a massage was very happy with what was done. She could move her neck and shoulders again, all the stiffness was gone.” Birgit – www.birgitphotography.com 1 October 2009 I started using Karin's massage services for the in 2006 and have found her to be professional and friendly. I have had pregnancy and normal massages from her and found her be very knowledgeable and approachable. Fiona Hall Director KIFFIN Limited Streamlining your documents & processes
