What is Acupuncture?
ACUPUNCTURE is a form of healing which originated in China where it has been practised continuously for the past 4,000 years. It is probably one of the oldest forms of medicine practised in the world today. Acupuncture has traditionally been used to treat a wide range of health problems and has its own system of diagnosis which is now combined with Western anatomy and physiology to assess the body’s condition. Acupuncture works by regulating the flow of the body’s own natural energy (which the Chinese call Chi). This in turn affects the fuctioning of the nervous system, endocrine system, immune system and all organ function within the body. The principal method of treatment in Acupuncture involves the shallow insertion of very fine needles into specific points in the body. This in turn effects the flow of energy throughout the body and produces the healing response. Acupuncture is generally painless when administered by a skilled practitioner. Often patients don’t even realise that a needle has been inserted. Modern Acupuncture needles are disposable. They come in a sterile package and are for single use only. Acupuncture can be safely used in conjunction with most medication. It can generally be combined with other forms of therapy and is suitable for patients of all ages. A wide range of disorders can be treated by Acupuncture. You are advised to consult your Acupuncturist for an opinion. What Can Acupuncture Treat?
