SERVICES

Welcome to Ros Arnott Our Ancestors, by trial and error found the most effective local plants to heal their illnesses. With the advances in science, we can now better understand their healing powers. Herbalism, in this country is still classified as ‘alternative’ or ‘complementary’, but it is still the most widely practiced form of medicine worldwide with over 80% of the world’s population relying on plants for health. Herbal medicine uses plants to treat disease, prevent illness and support body systems or organs. Why Herbal medicine? Plants have a particular affmity for certain organs or systems, toning and nourishing them, restoring health to those parts which have become weakened. As the body strengthened, so is its power and ability to fight off disease. When balance and harmony are restored, health will be regained. Many pharmaceutical drugs used today are based on plant constituents and, even now, when scientists are seeking new ‘cures’ for disease it is the plant world they turn to. They fmd, extract and then they synthesize in the laboratory a single active constituent from the plant. This can then be manufactured on a large scale. Herbalists believe that the active constituents are balanced within the plant, and by using the whole plant ensure minimal side effects and safer usage. What it can treat Herbal medicine can treat any condition that you may see a doctor for, and a qualified herbalist knows when medical advice from a doctor or another therapist is preferred or required. Common complaints seen by herbalists include:
  • Skin problems such as psoriasis, eczema and acne.
  • Digestive disorders such peptic ulcer, colitis, irritable bowel syndrome and indigestion.
  • Heart and circulation problems such as angina, high blood pressure, and varicose veins.
  • Gynecological disorders problems with monthly periods, premenstrual syndrome.
  • Nervous system conditions such as insomnia, stress, tension, anxiety, headaches.
  • Immune conditions such as chronic fatigue syndrome, thrush, arthritis, tonsillitis, colds, influenza, hayfever eczema and asthma can all be successfUlly treated in most cases.
Nutritional advice will also be given. Foods can harm as well as heal. Some foods may need to be eliminated while appropriate foods may be used as medicines to correct any imbalance. Physical and sporting performance can be maximised and desired weight can be achieved also through diet. Supplements Supplements may be recommended if a deficiency is suspected. Nutrients are best obtained from our food, but this is not always possible.
