Haiya = חיה (Hebrew); noun; life, vitality
The primary aim of Haiya Yoga is to restore wholeness of vitality and life to each individual. Using the ancient art of yoga, a combination of asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing techniques) and relaxation are used to restore balance to body, breath and mind. This stems from the tradition of Sri T. Krishnamacharya, the master who brought Yoga to the West, passed on through his personal student A.G Mohan (Svastha yoga), who visited New Zealand earlier this year.
A holistic approach is employed, to ensure each individual's needs are met. We believe in working with your body, rather than against it, by using postures appropriate to each person, rather than forcing one's
body into painful and counter productive positions. Many people feel that they 'can't do yoga', as they are 'not flexible enough' or they 'can't touch their toes'. This is a common misperception. We work with
you, no matter what your level of experience and flexibility. Adjustments are made to suit each individual, while still providing strength and challenge for experienced practitioners.
All classes are focused on increasing:
- Flexibility and core strength
- Structural restoration, stamina and good posture
- Mental focus and a balanced, peaceful mind
