Ashtanga Yoga is an ancient art form that realigns the spine, detoxifies the body, building strength, flexibility and stamina. By using the breath as the main focus, Ashtanga is also a powerful tool for stilling the mind. The unique beauty of this practice is that it can be customized to suit your level of fitness, flexibility and age. Class Descriptions
Beginners / General Flexible start time. Start anytime within first half hour of class. These Mysore style classes are an opportunity for students to learn the practice in its traditional format, with personal guidance and adjustments from the teacher. New students will start with a short practice progressing through a set series of postures. These postures are taught one at a time, based on each students flexibility, strength, breathing and dedication to practice. In this way you progress at your own rate and helps in the cultivation of a personal yoga practice. Suitable for all levels of fitness and flexibility. Pregnancy Yoga A slow class focusing on combining breath with postures, to help bring greater awareness to the changes within, while preparing you for birth. Six week block course for $60. Paul Scriven Paul has been practicing Traditional Thai Massage and Yoga for 15 years. He began his massage training in 1994 at ITM in Chiang Mai and has since spent many years studying under different teachers before finally finding the master teacher Pichest Boonthumme in 2005. Paul has also taught massage classes around NZ since 1999 and continues to teach but now only one on one. Paul studied Iyengar yoga in Auckland before moving to Tauranga where he continued to study at the Tauranga Yoga Centre and was a teacher for six years and a past president. Since discovering Ashtanga Yoga he has dedicated his practice and teaching to this remarkable style of Yoga. He has assisted Peter Sanson for four years in a unique apprentice type situation, and has travelled to Mysore twice to study with Sri. K Pattabhi Jois. Ana Axfeldt Ana practiced Iyengar Yoga for ten years before discovering Ashtanga. From that moment on she has been dedicated to the art of Ashtanga and is committed to carrying on the direct lineage as taught in Mysore, India. Traditional Thai Massage Traditional Thai Massage is an ancient massage therapy with its roots in Yoga, Ayurvedic medicine and Buddhism. This unique style of massage is done fully clothed and on a futon. It is a deep release massage, combining acupressure, gentle twisting, and deep stretching. Thai Massage helps release tension, increases vitality and is perfect for all body types. Ideal for working with injuries and rehabilitation. Therapeutic Massage Performed on a massage table this massage can be deep and/or relaxing as the practitioner using oil, kneads away the tension using a variety of techniques.
