Mindfulness Meditation
For individuals, groups and workplace "In our busy lives there is so much pressure to address what is urgent that there is often very little time or energy left to engage with what is vital and most meaningful - our own inner sense of wellbeing, inner peace and clarity and direction. Meditation is a simple and effective tool for achieving inner peace, clarity and focus by bringing ones awareness into the present moment. The meditations we teach are non-religious and are not aligned with any particular group. They are accessible to a wide range of people and are easy to practice. Mindfulness is at the very core of our engagement with life, it is the capacity to be aware of what is going on. The practice of mindfulness helps us to stop running and to realize that happiness and wellbeing are available to us in the very moments of our lives that we find impossible, exhausting or overwhelming. Well-being is a state of mind primarily, a state of being. Wellbeing is not some fancy state where everything comes together externally and we are fit, healthy and wealthy everafter (although that's not too bad either..). Rather, it is a deep knowing that we are able to live our lives as they are and find peace within that knowing. Then our vital energies shift from fighting and debating and complaining to making the most of what we've got. A sense of grace begins to flow through us and we feel well and able. We feel fit for life." Some of benefits you can expect in a relatively short time:

Here is a practical example of a cancer patient using mindfulness: a man in his 50s with a history of colorectal cancer who handles the experience of a new twinge differently before vs after mindfulness-meditation training. Before learning mindfulness, the man automatically reacted and went into a tailspin by creating a mental story about the pain; he interpreted it to mean that his cancer had recurred, and the rest of his life unpleasantly flashed in his mind. His body tensed up and contracted around the pain, which seemed to make his pain worse. After learning mindfulness, he intentionally brought awareness to what he was experiencing. He noticed that his mind was racing and catastrophizing, that his heart was pounding, and his breathing was shallow. He re-centered himself by taking a deep breath and then gently focused on the sensations of breathing, one breath at a time. He felt more in control, relaxed, and grounded. He then recognized how irrational his thoughts were. He gradually brought his attention to the area of the pain; he noticed that the sensations, dull throbbing, were not constant. He was surprised and relieved; in that moment the sensation was not as uncomfortable or scary as he had thought. "I contacted Maya when I was having chemotherapy for advanced cancer. Although I had very little experience of meditation Maya has worked with me to find a way of meditating that suits me and she has done this with wisdom, an open mind, honesty, love, and (very importantly) humour. The benefits have surpassed anything I could have hoped for and I use the skills Maya taught me every day. I find I can very quickly achieve a place where I am at peace . This can be done many times throughout the day in what I refer to as bite sized meditations. It can also be done anywhere and anytime. My journey is one I never expected to take so soon, and while sometimes I am scared, with Maya's help, most of the time I am not." Susie Milne, Personal Trainer About us
