About Penny
My intention is to study how we approach life. Most of us have grown up with expectations and ways of going about our business, some of which are helpful and some which get in the way of us achieving our goals. I feel that if we focus on becoming curious about our whole being, and less busy in our thoughts and actions, we can best notice how we respond to situations. This way we learn more about who we really are which in turn makes new options possible. Training and experience Bachelor of Applied Social Sciences (Psychotherapy) Eastern Institute of Technology (Hawke’s Bay) and graduate of Hakomi Integrated Psychology (Perth, Australia). Penny has experience with individuals, young people, couples and their families, long and short term counselling and psychotherapy in Australia and New Zealand, and has worked with issues relating to trauma, loss and grief, relationship concerns and self esteem. What is psychotherapy? Through the mind we experience ourselves and interpret our world. This mental process impacts on our emotions, body and spirit. We can't always change our world but we can change how we relate to it, how we think and feel. In a private setting careful attention and support is provided in exploring your situation. What's happening, and what's missing for you? What would feel better? Psychotherapy is an opportunity to gain new insight and options by understanding your self beneath your story, your personal way of being in the world. Through bringing kind awareness to what is already happening and exploring new ways of responding to life we can become free from unhelpful patterns and find new and happier ways of being. What is Hakomi? Hakomi experiential psychotherapy is a respectful gentle yet powerful method of assisted self-study. Its techniques are designed to access deeply held often limiting core-beliefs and make them conscious. Mindfulness is the cornerstone of the Hakomi method. We simply slow down and focus on the internal experiences, the sensations or emotions, and report on them as they are occurring. Turning awareness inwards in this way and observing and accepting what occurs in the present moment, the mind becomes calm, open and receptive. We are able to witness the clues mind and body present more clearly. Our history, and our development is written in the body in the way we move and talk, in our way of being. By evoking and studying experience in mindfulness a felt sense of the pain or injury is possible, and new healthy and less limiting choices can offer themselves. Hakomi is often found to a be powerfully transformative and deeply satisfying experience.
