Acupuncture
Acupuncture is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). TCM is based on the concept of maintaining balance and harmony to keep ourselves in a good state of health. It focuses on the entire system, body, mind and spirit to restore balance. Accordingto TCM our energy runs through channels in the body which run from the surface to deep inside, and connect with each other. Illness is the result of a blocakage or problem with the flow of energy. Acupuncture points access these channels to affect the energy flow and organs of the body. Treatment/Cost The first visit will last approx. one hour and will consist of an initial consultation. If time allows we can also treat if you want to go ahead with treatment. I will explain how acupuncture works, how it can help your condition, and approx. how many treatments you may need. Treatment will always be with sterile disposable needles in a safe clinic environment. Needles are usually left in for about 20 minutes and I will treat with points on either the back and front of you, or both. Moxa/Electro Acupuncture Moxa is a herb which when burnt creates a very strong and direct heat. This may be used to heat selected acupuncture points. It can help to increase blood and energy flow, and regulate body function. Electro acupuncture may be used to give additional stimulation to the needles. If used both treatments are painless and give a pleasant sensation. Cost per session is $80 Common Conditions that can respond to Acupuncture Anxiety Arthritis Asthma Depression Digestive Problems Fertility Fibromyalgia Gynaecology/Obstetrics Hayfever/Allergic Rhinitis Headaches Insomnia Irritable Bowel Syndrome Lower Back Pain ME Menopause Symptoms Musculoskeletal Pain PMS Sinusitis Sciatica Sports Injuries Tiredness Acupuncture for Fertility
Acupuncture has been used successfully in China to boost reproductive health for thousands of years. More recent Western studies have also supported the use of acupuncture to increase the success rates of both natural conception and assisted fertility treatment (ART). Acupuncture is a natural and gentle way of getting your body’s reproductive system into optimum health. The pressure to conceive can be immense. Over the last two decades there has been a significant rise in the number of couples experiencing fertility problems. It is taking longer for couples to conceive, some 30% of women seeking medical help are told they have “unexplained fertility”, and sperm counts have dropped by 50% in the last ten years with an increase in abnormalities. Despite this more gloomy news there is plenty you can do to improve your situation......... How can acupuncture help? Acupuncture can help whilst undergoing assisted fertility treatment by:
    * Increasing the blood flow to the ovaries and uterus * Supporting the body during down regulation * Reducing the affects of OHSS * Reducing the risk of miscarriage * Clearing any pathogenic factors affecting treatment * Limiting the affects of stress and anxiety on the body
Treatment is with fine needles used on a number of acupuncture points, in a relaxing environment. I will often use Moxa which is a herb which burns with a direct heat which I may use on points on the abdomen or lower legs. I may also use electro-acupuncture which gives added stimulation to the needle and is very comfortable and painfree. You will feel very relaxed and comfortable during treatment. Qualified Acupuncture Practitioner since 2003 I qualified as an Acupuncture Practitioner back in 2003 in the UK, after undertaking three full years of full time study. Up until the end of 2011 I worked as a full time Acupuncturist in Poole/Bournemouth on the South Coast of England. In 2012 we had an opportunity to emmigrate and I moved with my husband to the Bay of Plenty in April of this year. We love the area and are very happy to make it our home. I am now excited to start practicing in New Zealand and working alongside Debbie and Rob at Mount Acupuncture. I am a member of the British Acupuncture Council and am currently going through the process of joining the New Zealand Acupuncture Standards Authority (NZASA), at which point I will be ACC registered. I treat all conditions but also have a particular interest in Womens Health, in particular gynaecological problems, menopause and fertility. I am a member of the Acupuncture Fertility Network in the UK, and have trained under Zita West for the last seven years, in the UK. I have a passion for helping patients to reach their health goals and will always be honest about how I can help. I am very happy to answer any queries you amy have by phone or e-mail
