Welcome to Hands on Health Alice Grant is a Craniosacral Therapist and Reflexologist based in Waipu. From England, she recently arrived in the Northland with her NZ born husband and two children after travelling by boat from the east coast of the USA which explains the sailors testimonials! Alice´s background is in social work with children and families but she moved into bodywork en route because she believes in a holistic approach to health. Alice qualified as a reflexologiist with the International Institute of Reflexology in London in 1998 and went on to complete Tony Porter´s Advanced Reflexology Training in 2005. She qualified as a craniosacral therapist with The Craniosacral Education Trust in 2005 in London and is a member of PACT in New Zealand. Craniosacral Therapy Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle treatment which listens to the body´s natural rythms and expressions of health through touch. The body has an inherent capacity to heal itself but this natural tendency can be compromised by environmental stresses when trauma occurs. Craniosacral therapy is particularly effective in treating trauma held in the body following childbirth, accidents, chronic illness and psychological stress. Craniosacral therapy can bring about release and reorganization through its primary orientation towards the patterns of health within the body. Reflexology Reflexology is type of bodywork which accesses the body through the feet. In essence there are reflex areas in the feet and hands which correspond to all of the glands, organs and parts of the body. Stimulating these reflexes can help many health problems in a natural way by activating nerve and blood supply to organs thereby encouraging the body to treat itself. Reflexology is an excellent all round boost to the system but is particularly effective in treating toxicity, hormonal imbalances, fluid retention, sinusitis, constipation, back/hip/shoulder pain, trapped nerves, insomnia and other stress related conditions. Reflexology increases vitality and sense of wellbeing. Chi Kung Chi Kung or (Qigong ) has developed in China over several thousand years. It uses a wide variety of standing forms and movements to access and move Chi (vital energy) around the body. It has its roots in Traditional Chinese Medicine and many of the forms are specifically related to opening up the channels and meridians relating to specific organs and energetic pathways in the body. Chi Kung takes many different forms as it has been practiced and taught in China and worldwide over the centuries but in essence it involves a series of simple, gentle movements which when repeated move Chi around the body in specific ways. Forms are often inspired by the movements of animals and the elements - earth, water, metal, wood and fire, and can have a powerful meditative quality allowing you come into relationship with your body in a new way.
