Introductory Courses

The Introductory course covers the basics of homeopathy with some background philosophy, theory and instruction in simple acute case taking. Keynotes of some of the main acute homeopathic remedies are studied. First aid situations and other acute conditions are also studied, along with the main remedies used in their treatment. Certificate of Complementary Medicine

New course for 2014! The Certificate of Complementary Medicine (CertCompMed) course provides students with a broad perspective on the scope of CAM in the overall context of today’s healthcare environment, including public health, ethics, research, health promotion and health behaviour. With exposure to a wide variety of natural medicine disciplines, students will be able to develop a sophisticated appreciation of their interrelationships and potential contribution in multidisciplinary and integrative health settings. A wide variety of topics allows students to build knowledge in a range of areas and may lead to interest in further study to become a practitioner. Next Intake Dates

Who should study this course? Potential students for this course will come from a range of backgrounds and could include (but are not limited to):
  • School leavers interested in CAM but not sure in which area to specialise
  • People seeking a career change without a clear area of where they would like to specialise
  • Staff currently working in allopathic (Western orthodox) medicine (medical staff and receptionists) looking for further education in CAM in order to appropriately refer patients to CAM practitioners or to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary clinic
  • People interested in health management, policy, public or population health and looking for careers in these areas and/or to go on to degree-level study
  • People interested in CAM for general knowledge and not looking for career outcomes, rather to broaden their knowledge of how to apply CAM in their lives
What are the opportunities for further study? This course will prepare students for further study in a variety of fields including health science, public health, public administration, health administration and social work or specific CAM practitioner training. Further study options for graduates of this certificate could include:
  • Bachelor of Complementary Medicine (Endeavour, Australia)
  • Graduate Diploma in Health Science (at AUT, MIT or WIT)
  • Bachelor of Health Science (conventional at various polytechnics or CAM at smaller providers)

Homeopathy Foundation Course

The One Year Foundation Course is designed to give students a sound grasp of acute homeopathic prescribing, a good knowledge of homeopathic philosophy and theory and some in-depth study of major homeopathic remedies. Anatomy and physiology are also included and integrated with homeopathic therapeutics, ie. remedies related to specific conditions (earaches, sore throats etc). The course aims to bring the student to a level of proficient prescribing for first aid and basic acute situations. This involves an understanding of the presenting condition, its severity, the possible complications and how to recognise them and when to advise referral to other health care professionals. This course is ideal for those who wish to take responsibility for treating themselves and others in first aid and minor acute illnesses with homeopathic remedies. Students who successfully complete the Foundation Course may carry on their studies to the Diploma Level which is approved by NZQA and qualifies for student loans and allowances by the Ministry of Education. The Foundation Course constitutes the first year of the four year Professional Diploma course. A certificate of acknowledgment is granted to those who successfully complete the Foundation Course.

Diploma of Homeopathy

The Four Year Diploma Course aims to educate the student to a practitioner standard. It is a diploma course based on current national and international standards. It demands commitment and application on the part of the student. The course offers training in all aspects of homeopathy - from philosophy and theory to practical clinical application. Medical Science is included in the course to national accreditation standards. The course covers six main subjects;
  • Philosophy
  • Theory
  • Materia Medica
  • Practical Application including clinical training
  • Medical Science
  • Therapeutics
Clinical training is included in the 'Practical Application' subject area. Beginning in year two, students are required to undertake on-site training with registered homeopathic practitioners. Each year of the course the subjects increase in depth and level of integration and are designed to facilitate a smooth, steady transition on the part of the student. The Four year Diploma Course is approved by NZQA and qualifies for student loans and allowances by the Ministry of Education.

Animal Health Foundation Course

The One Year Animal Foundation Course is designed to give students a sound grasp of acute homeopathic prescribing, a good knowledge of homeopathic philosophy and theory and some in-depth study of major homeopathic remedies; along with the homeopathic therapeutics of common acute animal conditions. Animal anatomy and physiology is an integral part of the course. The course aims to establish student competence in first aid and minor acute prescribing. The learning objectives of this course include:
  • Acute case taking and analysis
  • Use of the repertory
  • Remedy differentiation and selection
  • Potency choice and administration
  • Prognosis
A certificate of acknowledgment is granted to those who successfully complete the course. Students may go on to complete the Diploma of Homeopathy (Animal Health) which is approved by NZQA and qualifies for student loans and allowances by the Ministry of Education. It is currently offered only at our Auckland, New Zealand venue or via DVD distance learning.
