How we work
As Natural Medicine Therapists using holistic health care we work with you to address both your immediate and long-term health goals, help relieve symptoms as well as identify the underlying cause, and give you the necessary tools to enhance your body’s ability to heal itself.
We recognise that other factors (eg. emotional or environmental) can cause or add to health problems, and act as barriers to healing, so we work holistically to ensure ALL contributing factors are addressed.
This may be in the form of dietary or exercise advice, breathing or meditation exercises, relaxing massages, herbal formulas, nutritional supplements, Bach flowers - or simply being there to listen to you, or chat over a soothing cup of herbal tea.

Bachelor of Horticultural Science | National Diploma in Homeopathy
I have been passionate about homeopathy for more than twenty years and love seeing the benefit of improving the body’s ability to heal the mind, body and soul, holistically.
I am a qualified homeopath and I have studied at, the South Pacific College of Natural Therapies, Auckland, the Auckland College of Classical Homeopathy and The Hierophant, Australia.
I originally studied a Bachelor’s Degree in Horticultural Science and have always had a love of nature and I have found that this has complimented my knowledge of homeopathy. Homeopathy is suitable for all ages and treats a wide array of acute and chronic health problems.
I also widely use flower essences, homeobotanicals and cell (tissue) salts, to improve client’s well-being. My aim is to enable your body to return to a healthier balanced state and along the journey offer support to aid in that process.
Bachelor of Acupuncture, 2010 | Diploma of Acupuncture, 2006
I have been practicing Acupuncture since 2007 and am a member of New Zealand Register of Acupuncturists (NZRA) and an ACC provider. I am passionate and confident in Acupuncture and have helped many people with a variety of conditions over the years.
In my practice, I place a great focus on posture and balance because improper posture affects the nervous system and circulatory system. In acupuncture there are 2 main concepts which control human body i.e. Qi and Blood. Qi is an Energy flow (Nervous System) and Blood is an Energy Source (Circulatory System) for muscles and organs. So bad posture tightens up the muscles, which then compress the nerves and blood vessels that slow down the metabolism.
I particularly specialise in musculoskeletal issues such as sports injuries & repetitive strain injuries (RSI). I also find acupuncture to be effective in reducing stress hormones (cortisol) and helping to increase endorphin secretion. It can therefore be very effective for treating stress related symptoms like insomnia, anxiety and indigestion. I highly recommend you to try acupuncture if you are looking for more gentle and natural remedy for your health.
Services I provide:
- Traditional Chinese Acupuncture- Based on 14 main meridians system + Balancing method
- Modern Acupuncture- Based on Anatomy and Science
- Chinese Herbal Medicine
PhD (Pharmacology) | MSc (Hons) (Pharmacology/Neuroscience) | BSc (Pharmacologyand Physiology) | PGDip (Nutritional Science) | BHSc (Complementary Medicine) | Dip. Herbal Medicine | Dip. Naturopathy | Dip. Homeopathy
I have a PhD in Pharmacology and over 20 years of clinical experience. I am currently working as a naturopath and nutritionist and have recently trained as a Metascan/Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) practitioner. In my practice I draw on a strong medical background in nutrition, biochemistry, neuroscience, pathophysiology and pharmacology.
This enables me to provide an evidenced-based problem solving approach for wellness and to manage chronic health conditions, anxiety and mild depression. I like to use functional medicine to assess nutritional status and BIA to assess body composition and cellular health.
Areas of interest/expertise include:
- Nutrition in breast cancer during chemo and radiotherapy
- Gastrointestinal health (e.g. IBS, allergies, Whiples, food intolerances)
- Autoimmune diseases (coeliac, psoriasis, rheumatic conditions, thyroid conditions)

"Alison put me in a good space and helped give some balance to my life." - Mark
"After seeing Alison I feel more positive about life, feel like I am doing something I believe will help instead of floundering." - Lynne
"Alison approached my health concerns with an open mind. We were able to have candid discussions over several appointments which resulted in my being able to complement naturopathic remedies with my prescribed medication. Alison believed in working with me, my lifestyle and my budget and what she recommended gave results and was achievable." - Ranee
"I first met Carolyn Brown when I was experiencing nasty side effects from my third chemotherapy drug cycle. My friend ( a GP) referred me because nothing was helping my symptoms. Carolyn was meticulous in taking a full history, and devoted a great deal of time to gain a wholistic perspective of my illness. The offered remedies were certainly very helpful.Since then I have had ongoing support, as changes to my needs have evolved over time. I have now considerably outlived my projected life expectancy. Carolyn has a wealth of knowledge from an intellectual perspective, as well as an easy going practical approach to give a well rounded wholistic solution. I have found her input most valuable, and would not hesitate to recommend her advice on any health issue". - Madeleine
“I have been seeing both Alison and Carolyn over the last few months. What a team ! Both of them are such caring and nurturing women, with a wealth of experience and knowledge. I always look forward to my appointments with both of them, but especially my massages with Alison … Bliss. A monthly massage is part of my self care plan. I highly recommend both of these wonderful women.” - Lindy
