SERVICES

Supporting the development of contented, healthy individuals and communities is a guiding principle in my life. I feel privileged to have had over 20 years’ experience guiding and coaching people to face and overcome fears and obstacles and develop the inner strength and self-belief to make choices that lead to living a more authentic life. Learning and teaching are two of my great loves; my background is in education, both indoors and outdoors, with individuals and groups. After initially training as a teacher I worked as a facilitator, educator and guide in the outdoor education and adventure tourism industries for ten years, working with children with special needs through to corporate groups. My area of special interest was using the outdoors as a medium for personal, professional and team development, applying my creative skills to designing and delivering workshops, training and outdoor experiences for specific group needs. I went on to work in a professional capacity as a Career Consultant for five years which was rich and rewarding work. I have practiced yoga and meditation for many years which allowed me to connect immediately with the flowing movement and mindful awareness between giver and receiver that are integral to Thai Yoga Massage. I initially completed training in Ancient Thai Massage at the Kathmandu Centre of Healing in Nepal in 2000 and have continued to explore this form over the years, including training in Thai Yoga Massage through Thai Massage Toronto (TMT) in Canada. I feel profoundly grateful to have learnt this deeply transformative form of bodywork in both an Eastern and Western setting with highly respected teachers. My practice draws together my skills in bodywork and coaching, intuitively working with you to release areas of stress and tension. I believe our bodies are the cellular memories of our experiences on a physical, mental and emotional level; bodywork provides a means to unlocking and transforming these experiences, allowing more ease and flow back in. Through my experience of competing in national and international events in waka ama (outrigger canoeing) and long distance open water swimming I understand the need to have a healthy mind free from limiting beliefs and fears in order to achieve physical goals. Thai Yoga Massage is:
  • a smooth, flowing dance of movement between giver and receiver
  • a clothed form of bodywork, carried out on a mat on the floor
  • often likened to a passive yoga workout for the receiver with the same benefits as yoga, Tai Chi and martial arts
The benefits of Thai Yoga Massage:
  • explore, gain insights into and release areas of physical, mental and emotional stress and tension
  • increase energy levels
  • restore mind-body balance
  • promotes circulation and energy flow
  • increase calm and clarity through periods of change
  • increase flexibility and range of motion; the body is stretched in ways that are difficult to attain through individual exercise
  • stimulate the nervous system and blood flow while simultaneously relaxing the mind and body
  • each session tailored to individual client needs
Cost: Initial session of 1½ hours is $80. Subsequent sessions by dana which is a Pali word meaning generosity – I believe in the benefits of this work to increase health and well-being on all levels and want to make it accessible to clients to make regular sessions part of your life. This may be weekly, fortnightly, monthly, bi-monthly or perhaps once a season throughout the year. I trust that working by dana (donation) will allow you to put your own value on what you have received and what you can willingly give in return within your own means. Please contact me to book a session - I am happy to work in shorter blocks of 15 and 30 minutes if you would like to meet me and experience this form for the first time. A standard first session is 1½ hours with subsequent session lengths arranged as needed.
Testimonials
Through my combined work roles as a guide in the outdoors and a drum teacher, which are both pretty physical, I thought I had good awareness of my body and how it moves though during Nicola’s massage I felt like I reached another dimension with my mind and body opening up like I have never experienced before. The feeling stayed with me for three days, with many insights and subtle shifts happening throughout that period and a deep sense of peace that lasted longer still. Rob, Motueka, NZ Nicola’s massage is the best I have ever received and I have had many massages in my life, in fact I used to be a massage therapist myself. I have been experiencing ‘brain fog’ and intense headaches since a serious concussion 4 years ago. During Nicola’s massage the brain fog lifted and I felt the clearest and most energetic I have felt in years. Without me saying much she knew where to work on areas that hold a lot of pain and tension. I wish she was staying on here, I’d be a regular. Garth, Saskatchewan, Canada
