Shelley Reid Holistic Health Therapist About Us
As an holistic health practitioner, like many others I have learned healing and health knowledge from formal training, and my own life experiences. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been drawn to rather more esoteric teachings than mainstream theories, and have found great satisfaction in being able to incorporate them into my work. As a listener and observer of life, I continue to refine my approach to health and well-being, and offer this back to people who come to me looking for some help with resolution of their issues. The last ten years or so have been involved in complimentary health care, and now the main modalities I work with are Aromatherapy, Emotional Freedom Technique, CranioSacral Therapy, Rife and Massage Treatments. Being a keen advocate for health self-responsibility, and teaching ways to actively take care of one’s own being, I welcome the rapid growth of people’s understanding of all things physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. As human beings, we have incredible unrealised personal resources to develop and live rich fulfilled lives, and I consider it an honour to be part of people’s journeys through my work. Foundation of EFT EFT was introduced in 1995 by Gary Craig, a Stanford Engineering graduate in lifelong pursuit of personal well-being. “I have been intensely interested in personal improvement via psychology since my age 13. That was when I recognised that the quality of my thoughts was mirrored in the quality of my life. Since then I have been self-taught in this field, seeking only those procedures that, in my opinion, produced results. EFT is my latest finding, the core of which I learned from Dr Roger Callahan. I also have high regard for Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) in which I am a Certified Master Practitioner.” Gary Craig is neither a psychologist nor a licensed therapist. He is an ordained minister through the Universal Church of God in Southern California, which is non-denominational and embraces all religions. He is a dedicated student of A Course in Miracles, and approaches his work with a decidedly spiritual perspective. However, there is no specific spiritual teaching connected to EFT or its practitioners. “I’ve been doing energy healing work since 1991 and my jaw still drops at the results. I’ve lost count of the number of phobias, panic/anxiety attacks, traumatic memories, guilt, grief and physical ailments that have been elegantly relieved (often in minutes) by this procedure. Even though EFT violates just about every conventional belief out there, the results remain remarkable. EFT isn’t perfect, of course. We don’t get 100%. But it usually works well and the results are sometimes spectacular. It often works where nothing else will.” Gary Craig, Founder of EFT Addressing the Cause Based on the ancient principles of acupuncture, EFT is a simple tapping process that gently realigns the body’s energy system, without the discomfort of needles. Unlike other energy healing methods, EFT incorporates an emotional element to the healing process, addressing unresolved emotional issues as a likely cause of physical disease, psychological dysfunction, and personal performance limits. Negative emotional experiences disrupt the energy meridians that run through our body. The physical changes we feel from these disruptions, like nausea or anxiety, become attached to the memory of that experience and the way we see the world until we heal that disruption. Properly applied, EFT quickly realigns the energy meridians with respect to negative memories, disconnects the physical discomfort that we attached to it, and quite often removes the resulting symptoms. EFT continues to provide encouraging results, even with newcomers applying EFT to themselves. Some cases are more complex, however, and may require more detailed attention from an experienced EFT practitioner. Testimonials
“Some day the medical profession will wake up and realise that unresolved emotional issues are the main cause of 85% of all illnesses. When they do, EFT will be one of their primary healing tools…as it is for me.” Eric Robins, MD “My doorman told me that after suffering from weekly and sometimes daily migraines since childhood, he hadn’t had a single migraine since the EFT treatment, which was between 5 and 6 years ago. He still doesn’t understand what went on in my office but is thrilled with his relief.” Dr Carol Look, LCSW, DCH “EFT has been for me, the single most effective technique I’ve used in my 45 years of practice as a psychiatrist.” Curtis Steele, MD “The EFT is working just great for me, it is night 13 of falling asleep without the pain of the Invisible Chronic Illness (fibromyalgia) and this is a phenomenal record for me. Since 1991, the onset of this illness, I have not had two pain free nights in a row. You are very much appreciated and a great big thank you." Janet Cole Aromatherapy
Having its roots in ancient times, aromatherapy can be traced back to ancient Greece when essential oils were successfully used for physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual conditions. Aromatherapy entails the use of essential oils in a variety of ways to assist in the resolution of conditions. On your first visit, you will be asked to complete an interview form. This information will enable me to recommend the most appropriate use of the essential oils. The application of these oils will then be discussed with you. You may be happy with one visit, or you may choose, as many people do, to have regular aromatherapy sessions. Methods of application and use include:
  • Topical creams and oil blends
  • Inhalations
  • Blends for vaporising
  • Foot baths
  • Massage
  • Aromatic kinesiology
Kinesiology Conventionally, the word kinesiology means the study of motion, particularly the study of how muscles act and co-ordinate to move the body. Practitioners who apply kinesiology methodologies as a tool for detection of stress in the body, embrace many holistic health disciplines. Kinesiology uses the nerve pathways and acupuncture meridians to identify the physical, emotional, nutritional and energetic factors which may be blocking the body’s natural healing process. Gentle testing of indicator muscles associated with these energy systems can determine the state of stress or balance in the corresponding organ, gland, or meridian. For example, Pectoralis Major Clavicular is energetically linked with the stomach meridian which activates digestion and is also connected to our emotional world. This biofeedback mechanism provides information about our biocomputer which organises our physical functions. Occurring outside of our conscious awareness, it is only when we are unwell that our awareness is heightened and we notice our dysfunctional state. Aromatic Kinesiology As the name suggests, Aromatic Kinesiology is a combination of two modalities. By blending the principles of aromatherapy with kinesiology, a powerfully synergistic modality has been created in Aromatic Kinesiology. Since ancient times, flowers, plants and herbs have held symbolic and often secret meanings. They have been widely regarded and used in a variety of therapies as symbols of the soul, to unlock our spiritual potential. Essential oils have the capacity to create an opening in the psyche, enabling us to energetically and cognitively make a shift in their perception about stress situations. Aromatic Kinesiology is about enhancing your health and well being. Your body was designed for self-healing and Aromatic Kinesiology is about the healing journey that your body can take. Aromatic Kinesiology takes us into the world of energy. Your body is already familiar with this world and it is easy to test the energy of the body. Your body can talk and we need to listen in the right way to translate what is going on energetically and then educate the system to function at a higher, more aware level. Aromatic Kinesiology largely speaks to the part of the Self that is ready to unfold. This stirring of the soul is always motivated from within and is the basis for growth, development and evolution. CranioSacral Therapy CranioSacral Therapy (CST) was pioneered and developed by osteopathic physician John E. Upledger following extensive scientific studies from 1975 to 1983 at Michigan State University, where he served as a clinical researcher and Professor of Biomechanics. CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the function of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system – comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord (from the skull to the tail-bone). CST is a ‘light-touch’ manual therapy that works with the body to enhance the body’s natural healing process. A session usually lasts around an hour, and the client remains fully-clothed. A wonderful by-product of this therapy is that it is generally deeply relaxing. By complementing the body's natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction, including:
  • Migraine Headaches
  • Chronic Neck and Back Pain
  • Motor-Coordination Impairments
  • Colic
  • Autism
  • Central Nervous System Disorders
  • Orthopedic Problems
  • Traumatic Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries
  • Scoliosis
  • Infantile Disorders
  • Learning Disabilities
  • Chronic Fatigue
  • Emotional Difficulties
  • Stress and Tension-Related Problems
  • Fibromyalgia and other Connective-Tissue Disorders
  • Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJ)
  • Neurovascular or Immune Disorders
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
