A Short Biography Hi. My name is Catherine McCarthy and I was born in 1960 into a large and ultimately spiritually motivated family. Mine was a pretty happy childhood and I grew into a dreamy and rather haphazard young woman. The first half of my twenties was devoted to fun and enjoyment and I 'fell' into employment as a performer, actor, singer and puppeteer. At 26 i had an extraordinary experience which I can only explain as a life-transforming wake-up. For many people this wake-up happens as a result of some trauma. Not in my case. One moment the world appeared one way, and in the next everything was transformed. It was as though I had entered an alternate reality where I could see my life but could no longer access any of my former understanding of it. Extraordinary experiences started to pile on top of each other instead and a psychic and intuitive lens seemed to be the only tool I had access to. My mind was unable to comprehend my heart had to take over the running of the motherships, so to speak. As a consequence I found myself leaving Hamilton for Dunedin as this new facility left me in no doubt that I had a teacher waiting for me in there. And so there was. I spent fourteen months initially with this teacher who taught me much of what she had perfected to take us deep inside ourselves to discover and heal our hurts from not only this life but former ones, for I practice from home, rather than in a flash clinic for the same reasons that I had home births and my children home schooled. I like it. It is simple, it feels it feels normal and it works for me and for my family. I believe most of our illness is caused by blockages and stuckness in our beings. I also know from experience that it needn’t be difficult to shift these patterns. The most effective path into our own healing is complete honesty. We are spiritual beings having a human experience, and experience means making mistakes sometimes. Would you like me to hand on some of the tools I use to tidy up behind you? I truly believe it is our birthright to have access to joy and health and sometimes it is so simple to have that back, or even to have it for the first time in your life. If your pain is physical, emotional, mental or spiritual I am confident we can come up with a plan for change, and move at whichever pace is comfortable for you.
Case Histories Nuero Muscular Treatment Man, late 30s. This man was sent to me by his boss. He had been hampered by sever pain in his hip for 6 months. He was being seen by a physiotherapist twice a week during this period with little effect. He was quite despondent about his ability to be free of pain. I released the ligaments in his pelvis, freed up his sarcasm and addressed the hip rotator muscles which were causing his pain. The pain was completely gone by the next day. Woman, 1 child, unmarried, scholar. This woman becomes overwhelmed by her life. Hyperactive child, completing her masters, little money. She carried her enormous stress in her back muscles and would cry for the pain. I addressed this with massage and other tools but the big shift for her was at the end of the treatment when I used Kinesiology technique to change her internal computer programming about certain attitudes that needed ‘updating’. She still comes occasionally when it all gets too much but is much better skilled at running her busy life and is a lighter and happier person for it. Lymphatic Massage Man, late 50s. This man is what is termed a Kapha type in Ayevedic terms, overweight, sluggish, little energy. He booked four lymphatic drainage sessions with me as he had this type of treatment in the states and it worked wonders for him. We spaced the sessions for every four days. This is a wonderful treatment, slow, light and intensly relaxing. Two months after the treatments he had lost weight, was energetic and involved in life. This man books these treatments every six months for he was discovered that it takes that long for his natural Kapha temperament to reassert itself and the weight and sluggishness start to dominate again. Woman, 45, mother, student. I was teaching this technique to the natural therapy second years and this student was interested in the benefits of lymph drainage, especially the reduction of the appearance of cellulite. She had six sessions with me, again spaced a few days apart. At the start, while she was slim she had poor skin and muscle tone. She was also quite aggressive and sour in her outlook. By the third session her slim tone at the point of mental and physical collapse. Listening to his list of ailments and his despair I was almost overwhelmed myself as to how to most effectively help him. As I listened it suddenly occurred to me that his boy had handed all the decision making in his life over to his mind. A serious imbalance indeed. I put him into a deeply relaxed state, guided him through an internal table where three parts were to have a meeting. Head, heart and gut were the characters and they needed to engage in a dialogue where each got to have equal say over which parts of his life they got to have authority. This was a huge shift in understanding for him. By the end of our session he was in a state of bliss. He rand me three days later with a new compliant – the sense of bliss was decreasing I pointed out that we get these exaggerated states sometimes when our mind is so strong it could talk us out of believing we have experienced what we have. But he knows the shift has happened and doesn’t need the bliss as a reminder. He came to see me a few weeks later and the change in him was so huge. Not only was he now perfectly well, but the experience had catapulted him into his spiritual journey.
