Your body is an incredible and powerful organism with an inbuilt will to stay healthy and strong. The symptoms of any discomfort you feel are simply signals that your body is struggling to maintain that state of health. Because we are individual people with our own personal lifestyle, we all develop our own specific complaints, and need a treatment specific for the person. This is why the treatment of the complaint is given in relation to the whole person. In his treatments Frans uses Hands On Physiotherapy (therapeutic massage, joint manipulation/mobilization, exercises), Bowen Technique, CranioSacral Therapy and Classical Homoeopathy. How does CranioSacral Therapy work? CranioSacral Therapy works by helping the body's natural healing mechanisms dissipate the negative effects of stress on the central nervous system. This is accomplished through utilizing a physiological body system called the CranioSacral system, which maintains the environment in which the central nervous system functions. It consists of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord, extending from the bones What is Homoeopathy? Your body is an incredible and powerful organism with an inbuilt will to stay healthyand strong. The symptoms of any illnessyou feel are simply signals that your bodyis struggling to maintain that state of health. Homoeopathic preparations are designed to work with your body to achieve its ultimate goal of health and balance. How was Homoeopathy discovered? Dr Samuel Hahnemann developed homoeopathy 200 years ago. Many of his patients were no longer satisfied with the conventional medicines he was prescribing. These patients found that the conventional medicines weren’t making them well, but they were causing many unpleasant side effects. This led Dr Hahnemann to turn away from conventional medicine in search of safer, more natural wellness options. He was drawn to the writings of Hippocrates from 400 BC, where Hahnemann rediscovered the basis of homoeopathy that “like cures like”. This principal means that a substance, which in large doses causes the symptoms of the illness can be used in minute doses to relieve those same symptoms. This principle is called the “Law of Similar”. What conditions can CranioSacral Therapy help? Gentle, fast, effective treatment. This is a unique system that has amazed therapists of all disciplines. The gentle moves on soft of the skull, face and mouth (which make up the cranium) down to the tailbone area (or sacrum). The role of this system in the development and performance of the brain and spinal cord is so vital that an imbalance or dysfunction in it can cause sensory, motor and/or neurological disabilities. Like the pulse of the cardiovascular system, the CranioSacral system has a rhythm that can be felt throughout the body. Using a touch generally no heavier than the weight of a nickel, skilled practitioners can monitor this rhythm at key body points to pinpoint the source of an obstruction or stress. Once a source has been determined, they can assist the natural movement of the fluid and related soft tissue to help the body self-correct. This simple action is often all it takes to remove a restriction. Other times, CST may be combined with other complementary therapies to help restore the body to its optimum functioning level. It is safe to use on anyone from neonates to the aged and produces lasting relief from pain and discomfort. Because of its influence on the functioning of the central nervous system, CranioSacral Therapy (CST) can benefit the body in a number of ways — from bolstering overall health and resistance to disease to alleviating a wide range of specific medical conditions. Among CST's largest patient groups are those suffering chronic symptoms that haven't been aided by other approaches. In particular, CST is beneficial to those with head, neck or back injuries resulting from an accident — be it from a car, sports or work mishap or from a fall. The extremely light touch involved in the application of CST makes it a safe approach as well for children, infants and newborns with early traumas, including birth trauma. They especially can benefit from the timely identification and release of restrictions in the CranioSacral system, thereby preventing future difficulties such as learning disabilities or hyperactivity. Another area of principal effectiveness is with stress-related dysfunctions. Insomnia, fatigue, headaches, poor digestion, anxiety and TMJ(jaw) dysfunction are just a few examples. CranioSacral Therapy works to reverse the debilitating effects of stress by providing the conditions in which the nervous system can rest and rejuvenate. In fact, it's this capacity to reduce stress that's leading an increasing number of people to include CST as part of their wellness routines. Other conditions for which CranioSacral Therapy has shown to be effective are various sensory disorders. Among these are eye-motor coordination problems, autism, dyslexia, loss of taste. Frans van de Weerd BA Physiotherapy What will happen on your first Hands On Physiotherapy visit? On your first consultation your case history will be taken, followed by a physical inspection and examination. The tests will give an assessment of your problem, and how it may have come about. This assessment is followed by an initial treatment. Each treatment is purely ‘Hands-On’ no machines are used and will take between 30 minutes and one hour. The Clinic specializes in: • spinal disorders • cervical headaches/migraines • sports injuries • joint problems • soft tissue injuries • work related injuries • postural advice & correction As a physiotherapist, Frans is ACC registered. If the injury is not covered by ACC, your Medical Insurance will cover the cost of the treatment. Bowtech balances the body to allow it to heal itself. The work consists of a series of precise moves on specific points of the body. These moves are light and can be done through clothing. There are frequent and important pauses between each series of moves. Only a limited number of sequences are needed each session so the technique is simple to do and gentle on the patient. It allows the body to heal itself with minimal intervention in contrast to other hands-on disciplines where the therapist imposes the healing mechanism on the patient through the technique performed. One does not have to be unwell to benefit from a Bowen treatment. It is an ideal way to help the body function at an optimum state of health and efficiency. Tests have shown that athletes who are treated with Bowtech have a consistently higher output and excellent recovery rate.
