Our Therapists At Lifestyles Neuromuscular and Massage Therapy our massage therapists have been trained at an NZQA approved and accredited educational facility or to an equivalently high standard. Our professional approach means that you can expect to be treated with honesty, dignity and respect at all times. Your massage therapist will create a totally confidential treatment plan, specific to your needs, with the aim of helping you achieve any soft tissue rehabilitation, recovery or maintenance goals you may have. Doug Maynard - Certified Neuromuscular Therapist B.H.S.(Massage & NMT), Dip.CNMT, Dip.Th.Mass, RMT. Doug Maynard. Company Director, qualifications include Bachelor Of Health Studies in Massage and Neuromuscular Therapy, Diploma of Clinical Neuromuscular Therapy, Diploma of Therapeutic Massage. Doug is a registered member of Massage NZ. Doug has been involved in the massage therapy industry for 13 years and as well as running and practising from this successful clinic, splits his time teaching at the NZ College of Massage in Epsom. Doug is involved in teaching the Neuromuscular Therapy component of the 3rd year of the Degree Programme and the Clinical and Sports Massage Diploma in the 2nd year of the Degree programme. Doug is also on the examining team for the Diploma in Therapeutic Massage and the Clinical and Sports Massage Diploma. His background, originating from the UK, was heavily involved in regional level rugby at U19 age group, then moved into Shotokan Karate for several years. Over the last 10 years or so Doug was involved in the field of body-building and enjoyed recreational off-road mountain-biking, often to be found on one of NZ's various mountain bike parks around the country. Doug's philosophies include an emphasis on acknowledging and treating the physical, emotional and biochemical aspects and stresses associated to your complaint, utilising the huge benefits of relaxation, neuromuscular therapy massage, myofascial release, manual lymphatic drainage and correcting breathing dysfunction to assist in his treatment programmes, addressing the body, mind and spirit as one. Doug has a particular passion for chronic pain and associated conditions and pathologies including Headaches/Migraines, OOS and Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS), chronic cervical and back pain, and shoulder dysfunction or injury. Combining his knowledge of postural imbalance, movement dysfunction and adaptation, and pathology, Doug will help guide you through and assist in your recovery. Shane Anderson - Certified Neuromuscular Therapist Dip.CNMT (2007),Dip.Th.Mass (2006), Cert.Relaxation Massage (2005), RMT. Shane Anderson holds a post-graduate Diploma in Clinical Neuromuscular Therapy (2007) a Diploma in Therapeutic Massage (2006) and a Certificate in Relaxation Massage (2005). Shane trained at the New Zealand College of Massage, Auckland, New Zealand. Shane has been located at Lifestyles Neuromuscular & Massage Therapy for the past 5 years and operates full time from this location. Prior to this Shane spent 4 years in the health industry working along-side naturopaths at East West Organics a holistic health store. During this time he pursued his interests in natural health, nutrition and finding a balanced lifestyle. His massage training compliments his 9 year study of Yang style Tai Chi (Master Huang Sheng Shuan via Rob Lindsay). Shane specialises in the treatment of physical effects of long term stress, exhaustion, lack of energy, sleeping difficulties, sustained workload, maintaining active and healthy sports/recreational activities, postural alignment, repetitive strains, accidents or injury. Areas of specialty include -stress relief, relaxation, sports recovery, headaches/migraines, lower back pain/sciatica, upper back/neck & shoulder tension, rotator cuff injury, stiffness & inflexibility, OOS/RSI, hip/knee pain, correcting effects of foot imbalances and recurring aches and pains. He has worked a total of 9 years in the health industry treating the body holistically. Shane incorporates an understanding of how the nervous system interacts with the body and mind enabling him to address the cause(s) behind recurring symptoms. This approach seeks to understand how and why changes have occurred in muscle tissue, posture and biomechanics. An individualised treatment plan is then given to help restore balance and function aimed at preventing a recurrence of your symptoms. Bryan Ellis - Certified Neuromuscular Therapist Dip. HSc. Massage and Sports Therapy, Dip. HSC. Th. Massage Bryan Ellis is a graduate of the New Zealand College of Massage, Auckland, New Zealand. He holds Diploma's in Health Science in both Therapeutic Massage and Sports Therapy (2010). Bryan is currently completing the final year of a Bachelor of Health Studies in Massage & Neuromuscular Therapy, after acquiring an interest in working with jaw dysfunction and chronic pain. Bryan is the newest addition to the team at Lifestyles Neuromuscular and Massage Therapy Clinic, and for the last two years has worked alongside other exercise professionals at a Health and Fitness facility in Auckland. A personal discovery of the mental, physical and emotional benefits of regular treatment massage, led Bryan to study towards a career where his interest and knowledge of anatomy, physiology and biomechanics could be utilised. He has 21 years personal experience in weight, cardio and gym-based training, and understands the principles of effective training and nutrition. This has assisted him in working with top athletes in the NZ Breakers, Gold Coast Titans, Auckland NPC Rugby, as well as regional representative and social - runners, netball and hockey teams. Bryan takes a holistic approach to help clients to be more aware of all aspects of their body in relation to pain, tension, or injury. He investigates the cause of dysfunction, assesses the contributing factors and plans a series of treatments to correct postural, biomechanical and stress related issues. Bryan enjoys the complexities of working with athletes who rely on their bodies to perform at their potential, as well as the general public who need to de-stress and be re-educated in how to better their health and wellbeing through manual therapy, nutrition and exercise prescription. Kirstie Gahan - Certified Neuromuscular Therapist Dip.CNMT (2008),Dip.Th.Mass (2006) Dip.Healing.Mass(2002), RMT. Kirstie holds a Diploma of Massage and Clinical Neuromuscular Therapy (2008), Diploma of Therapeutic Massage (2006) and a Diploma of Healing Massage (Ireland-2002). Kirstie was initially trained as a massage therapist while based in Ireland, and worked in various areas when she returned to NZ in 2002. While working in a rehabilitation facility she became interested in the treatment of chronic pain conditions, and returned to study to specialise in the area of Clinical Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT). She now enjoys working with a variety of people from many walks of life, with a wide-ranging variety of concerns and has a passion for improving their general well-being by breaking the stress/pain cycle; enabling you to enjoy a better balance in your everyday life. With the advanced training of NMT, Kirstie is able to tailor individual sessions to suit each client, providing a personal, effective treatment that can bring long-lasting relief. Many conditions can be helped, whether work-related, sport specific, or long standing tension/pain. Conner Bond Dip. Massage Therapy, RMT - College of Massage, RMT - Massage New Zealand Conner Bond holds a Diploma of Massage Therapy (2010) from Sutherland-Chan School and Teaching Clinic in Canada who are renowned for their high standards of technical and professional training. Massage therapy is government regulated in Ontario, Canada, where therapists are required to undergo two years (or 2200 hours) of training followed by assessment and strict licensing. In Ontario massage therapists commonly take on the role of health care provider for injuries and pathologies often treated by osteopaths or physiotherapists in other parts of the world. Conner’s interest in the human body and its systems is highly influenced by his combined 15 years of experience in judo, Brazilian jiu-jitsu and strength training. This experience has helped Conner develop a strong kinetic understanding and affinity for joint mobilisation (articulation). Conner has a particular interest in myofascial release and its effectiveness in resolving postural imbalances and chronic pain patterns. He addresses musculoskeletal issues from a “whole person” perspective, taking into account posture, compensatory changes and effects along the kinetic chain as well as lifestyle, occupational and emotional factors. His specialities include: pelvic alignment, upper cross syndrome (computer posture), athletic performance, relieving tension and pain, RSI/OOS, hand, wrist and forearm issues, injuries, chronic pain, scar tissue, upper, middle and lower back issues, and peripheral neuropathies. Conner utilises lymphatic drainage and other gentle techniques to treat freshly acute injuries and swelling. As part of his training in Canada, Conner completed over 250 clinic hours, many of which were in speciality clinics. These speciality clinics included: Stroke Survivors, The Elderly, Cancer Treatment Patients, Pregnancy and Sports. Safety for clients of all levels of health and medical status is paramount during the treatment plan. Conner is a strong believer that recovery is a team effort between therapist and client and strives to ensure clients leave with the knowledge to minimise exacerbation and maximise recovery. Brad McCullough Brad McCullough is a passionate sport and fitness enthusiast, and qualified personal trainer. Having been in the fitness industry since 1999, Brad has a wealth of experience to offer. His training includes certificate in sports and fitness, personal training, and sports science, and he is currently working towards a Master’s degree. Brad combines fitness theory with a huge amount of personal experience in a wide range of sports, including rugby, cricket, golf, boxing and martial arts. Never one to stand still, Brad likes to further himself by enhancing his qualifications with sports science at AUT and believes in developing all the time. He also brings a healthy dose of life experience to the table, having worked for five years in the police service, where he helped many of his colleagues with their physical training, and two years in the voluntary ambulance service. Brad also knows first-hand what it’s like to suffer, and recover from, a crippling injury. Having suffered numerous sporting injuries, and a broken neck from a car accident, he knows exactly what it takes to rehabilitate a person to the point where they are not just as good as they were before, but better. Brad is passionate about helping you achieve your goals, and developing tailored fitness programs that provide not just a motivational kick-start, but lifelong positive change.
